Job Title City of Farmington – Job Position #51: Golf Course Maintenance Worker Position Overview Number of Vacancies: 8 Department: Parks & Recreation Work Location: Pinion Hills Golf Course Pay Class: Seasonal Hiring Range: $12.00 per hour Days Worked: Varies Hours Worked: Varies Type: Seasonal Position Closes: Until Filled Essential Responsibilities Under the direction of a Golf Course Superintendent, Foreman or Golf Course Worker II or I, perform assigned tasks involved with the care and maintenance of golf courses and surrounding facilities, including park facilities. Perform turf maintenance functions, operating equipment such as tractors, riding mowers, hand mowers, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, and sand pusher machines. Lift and unload mowers, handling loads of over 50 pounds. Maintain orderly clubhouse, driving range, and maintenance areas. Operate a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City. Drive City vehicles such as pickup trucks and one‑ton trucks. Change putting green cups, top dresses greens, and other turf areas. Responsible for seeding and irrigation: dig up irrigation lines to 4 feet depth, replace PVC pipe and sprinklers, load sand trucks with sand and dirt. Apply fertilizer by lifting 50‑pound bags into a hopper and using hand spreaders. Perform litter control tasks, picking up barrels and loading them onto the truck. Clean golf course facilities and rest rooms using cleaning supplies as directed. Bring golf carts to the pro shop in the morning, fuel and check them after each use. Perform work on hands and knees and on a noisy, self‑propelled mowing equipment. Work around the public in a safe and courteous manner. Attendance at work is an essential function of this position. Nonessential Duties Relieve other personnel at the golf course when necessary. Operate backhoe. Qualifications This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy, which includes pre‑employment testing, post‑accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow‑up testing. Extensive background checks required. Valid New Mexico driver’s license with acceptable driving record for the past three years or state of current residency. Experience in installation and repair of sprinkler systems. Knowledge of lawn care or turf maintenance chemicals. Knowledge of golf etiquette helpful. Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely. Ability to operate noisy equipment for extended periods of time. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to tolerate weather extremes for extended periods of time. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co‑workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public. Ability to operate tools and equipment listed. Responsibility to participate in and comply with the City’s Environmental, Health, and Safety program. Tools and Equipment Used Pickup truck and lawn/landscaping equipment, including tractors, mowers, airifier, chain saw, edgers, weed trimmers, electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems. Miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, and sometimes sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions, is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is usually moderate to loud.
