Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT)

As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you perform diagnostic imaging using radiopharmaceuticals to visualize metabolic processes. You work in a nuclear medicine laboratory or radiology department and ensure patient safety throughout the imaging process.

The role centers on accurate image acquisition, dose administration, and quality control to support diagnostic interpretation by physicians.

Responsibilities

• Administer radiopharmaceuticals and ensure correct patient preparation
• Perform scans using gamma cameras, SPECT/CT, PET/CT as appropriate
• Adjust imaging protocols and optimize image quality
• Verify orders, schedule studies, and monitor for adverse reactions
• Perform quality control and calibration of imaging equipment
• Maintain radiation safety procedures and dosimetry records
• Document patient care and imaging results in the EHR

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related program

Licensure:

State licensure if required by the jurisdiction; ARRT (Nuclear Medicine) or NMTCB certification

Certifications:

• ARRT Nuclear Medicine Certification or NMTCB certification

Experience or Skills:

Clinical radiology experience in a nuclear medicine lab; strong attention to safety and accuracy

Experience

• Experience performing nuclear medicine procedures in a clinical setting
• Experience with PET/CT or SPECT imaging

Preferred

• Experience with dose calculations and radiation safety programs

Work Environment

Hospital-based radiology or outpatient imaging department with rapid patient flow and radiation safety oversight. Scheduling may include evenings or weekends based on imaging demand; documentation is in the imaging and EHR systems.

Collaboration with radiologists, technologists, and nursing staff is essential for workflow efficiency and patient comfort.
