Job Summary

As a Database Administrator I, you will support our business development and product teams by assisting with the analysis of technical and database requirements. Working under the direction of senior database administrators, you will assist in applying database automation techniques (both cloud and non-cloud), supporting data conversion and migration tasks, learning integration across workflow engines, and gaining hands-on exposure to relational and NoSQL data stores. In this role, you will also leverage modern AI tools including Claude AI to optimize SQL queries, automate routine scripting, and streamline database documentation and reporting tasks. 

Duties/Responsibilities

• Assists in installing, configuring, and maintaining the performance of database servers. 
• Supports department processes for optimizing database security and enforcing established standards. 
• Assists in managing database access permissions and user accounts. 
• Learns and performs basic performance tuning and routine health checks on database systems. 
• Leverages Claude AI and generative AI tools to assist in writing and tuning complex SQL queries, generating PowerShell/Unix scripts, and drafting database documentation.
• Supports senior staff in installing, upgrading, and managing database applications. 
• Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and escalates basic database errors and user tickets. 
• Assists in building and maintaining database reports, visualizations, and basic dashboards. 
• Help create basic automation scripts for repetitive database maintenance tasks. 
• Participates in on-call support rotation under senior engineer supervision as needed. 
• Monitors system performance and assists in identifying operational bottlenecks. 
• Responds in a timely manner to user-reported errors and ticketing queues. 
• Assists in protecting databases against unauthorized access and security threats. 
• Verifies database backup completion and assists in executing recovery testing procedures. 
• Generates routine reports on database usage, capacity, and performance metrics. 
• Regularly liaise with IT project managers, database programmers, and software engineering teams. 

Required Skills/Abilities

• Capability to work collaboratively as a key member of a positive team environment. 
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 
• Foundational understanding of the cloud computing model as it relates to enterprise systems. 
• Solid grasp of core SQL concepts and SQL server tools. 
• Hands-on experience or familiarity using Claude AI (or similar AI platforms) for query optimization, script generation, and technical problem-solving.
• Basic knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards. 
• Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling concepts. 
• Familiarity with PowerShell or Unix shell scripting. 
• Basic understanding of SSAS, SSIS, and SSRS. 
• Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge. 
• Impeccable attention to detail. 

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). 
• 0 to 2 years of experience in database administration, information technology, or software technical support. 
• Practical exposure to utilizing Claude AI or equivalent AI tools within daily engineering and database workflows preferred.
• Basic exposure to Linux and Windows Server environments. 
• Familiarity with core database technologies (MySQL, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB). 
• Exposure to cloud environments (Google Cloud or AWS) is a plus. 
• Introductory experience or coursework supporting software development lifecycles. 
• Entry-level database certifications (e.g., MCSA/MCSE, Azure Database Administrator, or AWS Certified Database) are a plus.
