RN Clinic - Pediatric Cardiology - Jeff Hwy

Job Duties Manages patient flow in and out of exam rooms. Explains the procedures to the patient before they are performed and ensures the patient’s comfort. Performs wound checks using aseptic techniques with suture removal 7 to 10 days after device implantation. Performs telephonic device analysis 1 week, 4 weeks after every implant, and quarterly thereafter or as requested by the physician; contacts patients per the Medical Center’s service standards and obtains EKG (magnet & non‑magnet) transmission over the phone. Interrogates devices for in‑patients as directed by physician orders. Operates the pacemaker/ICD database system and maintains accurate usage records. Adapts communication and behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy, introducing oneself, explaining services, and obtaining permissions appropriately. Other duties may be added or this description may be amended at any time. Education Required: Registered Nurse diploma. Preferred: Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing. Work Experience Required: 1 year experience with pacemakers and/or ICDs. Experience interpreting cardiac arrhythmia and accurately interpreting 12‑lead EKG and rhythm strips. Certifications Required: Current RN license in the state of practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association. Preferred: Cardiac Technician certification or higher. Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Understanding of the critical nature and condition of the inpatient and how pacing parameters may affect acute illness. Knowledge of pacemaker functions. Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Ability to be self‑directed. Ability to travel throughout and between facilities and work a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability). Physical and Environmental Demands The essential physical functions of this job include frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue is routine. The incumbent works in patient care areas and may be exposed to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste.
