Job Title: Paraprofessional Location: Sail Program - Painesville, OH FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt Reports To: Program Director Summary Performs any combination of following instructional tasks in the classroom to assist teaching staff of public or private elementary or secondary school by performing the following duties. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education, Experience & Certification: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must obtain and maintain an Ohio Department of Education Educational Aide Permit. Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software. Work Environment and Physical Demands: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Physical Demands: The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision and Peripheral vision. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Criminal Records Check: Must comply with Ohio Revised Code 3319.39 - Criminal Records Check.
Drug Testing: Must pass a drug screen at time of hire and comply with the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988.

- Reviewing and becoming familiar with student IEP's.
- Preparing and/or organizing instructional materials and lessons.
- Instructing children using appropriate methods and materials.
- Correcting student assignments, tests, and homework.
- Maintaining appropriate records.
- In any instructional setting (regular classroom, special education classroom, lunchroom, playground, recreational/physical education activities, field trips and hallways) during the school day.
- Behavioral management of children using the appropriate methods and techniques, including therapeutic invention which could require one and two person holds.
- With proper training, assist students with personal health needs and non-medical procedures.
- Position and/or perform one-person or two-person lift of a child when needed.
- May be an attendant on the van AM or PM several days per week.
