Radiology Technologist Lead

UW Medical Center - Northwest - Radiology has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME, EVENING SHIFT, 5 x 8 hour shifts, RADIOLOGY TECHNOLOGIST LEAD.

Under the direction of a radiologist, the CT Technologist performs diagnostic computerized tomography examinations accurately, independently and efficiently.

SCHEDULE:

MONDAY-FRIDAY 2PM-10:30PM (5 x 8 hour shifts)

WHAT WILL YOUR DAY LOOK LIKE?

1. Provides direction to department staff, includes but is not limited to:

• Makes, coordinates, and monitors daily work assignments.
• Assists with establishing work schedules.
• Acts as resource; gives advice and instructions to employees; coaches staff on assigned tasks; facilitates problem/issue resolution. Acts as expert/"super user" for equipment, technical problems, and for advanced or difficult procedures.
• Effectively orients and trains staff. Presents in-service sessions.
• Gives input/feedback to management relative to employee performance.
• Assists management with interviewing applicants and provides input, if assigned.
• Assures staff compliance with procedures, protocols, and standards.
• Checks staff members' work for quality and efficiency.
• Establishes and maintains effective communications. Holds staff meetings.
• Assists management with timekeeping and updating job descriptions.

2. Coordinates departmental operations, includes but is not limited to:

• Monitors workflow and expedites work completion; assures that deadlines are met. Notifies supervisor of backlogs; assists management with establishing and adjusting priorities.
• Solves routine operating problems. Confers with supervisor and manager regarding extraordinary situations.
• Assists management in development of operating policies and procedures.
• Assures the department operates efficiently, in the absence of the supervisor or manager.
• Completes written records and documentation.
• Completes projects as assigned.
• Keeps supervisor or manager informed of daily activities and any problems.
• Identifies potential safety hazards, notifies management, and takes appropriate action.
• Coordinates equipment repairs and troubleshoots/resolves supply problems.
• Makes recommendations to management regarding opportunities for process improvement. Participates in performance and quality improvement initiatives.
• Assists management with evaluation of new products, supplies, outside service vendors and makes recommendation for purchase.
• Assists with collection of data and analysis for budget and decision making.

3. Prepares patient and independently performs diagnostic exams & procedures for assigned modality, includes but is not limited to:

• Using a professional, ethical, and caring demeanor, prepares and informs patients of exam procedure. Obtains any necessary consent forms.
• Identifies patients properly using prescribed method.
• Verifies patient clinical history prior to exam. Assesses patient condition and selects appropriate instrumentation for the exam.
• Transfers and positions patient safely and properly for examination.
• Observes and monitors patient's condition and reactions to exam.
• Safety: Provides protection for patient, self, and other staff in accordance with prescribed safety standards and protective devices. Uses proper sterile technique.
• Independently performs assigned exams and procedures in accordance with established protocols and standards. Demonstrates ability to perform the entire variety of technical procedures expected of a Technologist for the assigned modality.
• Produces technically acceptable images in accordance with departmental procedures. Selects proper technical factors. Reviews and evaluates images to determine that they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
• Completes daily work in a timely fashion within exam time-window.
• Performs quality assurance checks on equipment and processes per department policies. Investigates and informs supervisor of any quality issues or problems.
• Assists supervisor to establish, update, and monitor protocols.

4. Operates, troubleshoots, maintains equipment, includes but is not limited to:

• Operates imaging equipment according to departmental procedures. Adjusts equipment position and parameters as specified for the exam.
• Uses systems effectively to evaluate and improve image quality.
• Performs scheduled maintenance on imaging equipment and troubleshoots problems.
• Provides equipment vendor/contractor and/or supervisor with timely notification and documentation of equipment issues.

5. Documentation, includes but is not limited to:

• As applicable, prepares preliminary diagnosis / report for radiologist, including anatomic and physiological data and diagnostic observations.
• Uses RIS/PACS effectively to input/order/edit/cancel exams.
• Completes calculations, required paperwork and records. Accurately inputs exam orders, patient data, patient charges, procedures completed, drugs administered, and prepares reports.
• Effectively uses the computer and NWH software applications to access information.
• Provides appropriate documentation to the radiologists or cardiologist as applicable.

6. Coordinates and optimizes customer service and workflow, includes but is not limited to:

• Continually evaluates patient flow and work assignments, makes necessary adjustments, and prioritizes work effectively.
• Exhibits excellent customer service skills with patients, physician office staff, coworkers, management, vendors, etc.
• In order to provide a high level of customer service and necessary coverage, all staff are required to answer phone and assist in other areas (such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patient transport); work weekends, other shifts, holidays or take call; and help co-workers with workload and projects.
• Acts as liaison with other departments; works on committees and task forces.

7. Maintains environment, includes but is not limited to:

• Sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready.
• Inventories supplies and linens. Restocks rooms as needed.
• Cleans and tidies exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc.
• Coordinates inventory control and supply ordering for assigned unit.

WHAT'S NEEDED?

• Education Background

High school diploma or GED equivalent, plus

Satisfactory completion of formal specific training in the approved Imaging Technology Program, as relevant to assigned modality.

Requires at least 2 years experience as a Radiologic Technologist.

Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred (or college level courses in management, business, or finance can be submitted for lead/supervisory experience).

• Licensure, Registration, Certification

Requires certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) (R).

Requires licensure with the State of Washington.

CPR or BLS certification is required, must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Required 24 CME credits every two years.
