Psychiatrist- Hospice

Must travel anywhere in the service territory

Essential Functions

The hospice Psychiatrist is responsible for delivering comprehensive psychiatric care to patients with serious, life-limiting illnesses, with an emphasis on comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Key responsibilities include:

Conducts psychiatric evaluations to assess mood disorders, anxiety, delirium, cognitive impairment, and existential distress.

Develops and manages individualized treatment plans, including prescribing and adjusting psychotropic medications in the context of complex medical conditions and polypharmacy.

Prescribes and monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and drug interactions, and implementing deprescribing strategies when appropriate.

Collaborates closely with an interdisciplinary team (physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and pharmacists) to support holistic, patient-centered care.

Provides consultation on complex cases, including treatment-resistant symptoms, behavioral disturbances, and questions of decision-making capacity.

Educates staff and caregivers on psychiatric conditions, symptom management, and safe use of medications in hospice care.

Participates in care planning meetings and contributing to ethical discussions, as appropriate and as requested, regarding goals of care and treatment preferences.

Documents clinical findings and maintaining compliance with regulatory and hospice care standards.

Qualifications

MD/DO, Residency in Psychiatry required

MD/DO, DEA license required

MD/DO, Completion of Residency in Psychiatry certification required

5 years experience required
