Sonographer - Per Diem

Description Position Title : Imaging Service PRN, Northern Light Mercy Hospital, Mercy Fore River – Maine, USA. Work Schedule : Variable. Summary : Under the direct supervision of the Lead Sonographer and Chief Technologist, the incumbent will produce two‑dimensional ultrasonic images of patients from prenatal to geriatric ages, provide indirect supervision of Level I Sonographers, troubleshoot equipment, and serve as a training resource. The incumbent will participate in the department’s QA programs, support student instruction, and handle confidential information per HIPAA. Responsibilities Technical Expertise : Operate all ultrasound equipment, perform all exams, meet QA standards, and guide student technologists. Productivity : Complete scheduled work, maintain documentation, coordinate resources, and improve exam processes. Communication : Maintain professional relationships with managers, co‑workers, and patients; exhibit politeness and respect. Interpersonal Skills : Stay open to feedback, address conflicts honestly, support hospital mission, and collaborate with other departments. Safety : Observe hospital and state safety requirements, participate in safety instruction, and maintain OSHA compliance. Patient Education : Explain procedures, obtain medical history, and correlate history to exams. Clinical Decisions : Ensure positive patient outcomes, adapt techniques for non‑routine situations, involve support personnel, and enforce aseptic technique. Equipment : Troubleshoot problems, maintain orderly rooms, manage inventory and supplies. Additional Duties : Provide care within budget constraints and perform other assigned tasks. Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasonography with progressive experience. License/Certifications: Current/Active RDMS, and registration in at least one specialty area of Ultrasonography.
