Mammography Technologist

REGISTERED MAMMOGRAPHY TECHNOLOGIST The Registered Mammography Technologist works under the direct supervision of the Radiology Director to facilitate the Radiology/Mammography Activities. The Mammography Technologist will perform technical and clerical duties in the Radiology/Mammography Department. This position requires full understanding and active participation in the Radiology/Mammography Department at Kimball Health Services. It is expected that the employee will perform quality imaging and ensure they are received by the radiologist in a reasonable amount of time. The employee will see to it that all ACR and MQSA standards are followed. The employee will be expected to support organizational expectations, customer service, patient rights, confidentiality of information, and environment of care for each and every patient. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES Meets specific competencies per unit specific. Consistently applies infection control practices. Appropriately handles and disposes of sharps as required. Use appropriate gloves and masks when required. Attend department specific education/training, in-services, and staff meetings. Attends mandatory in-service’s/educational/training activities. Submits all required paperwork on time. Verifies by signature or initials that attended staff meetings or read staff meeting minutes. Ability to perform mammographic exams and protocols. Ability to work independently without constant supervision. Knows mammogram protocols. Maintain quality mammograms both screening and diagnostic. Understand how to troubleshoot and report equipment problems. Complete clerical duties as assigned. Maintain open and collaborative working relationships with staff and physicians to maintain a pleasant work environment and professional image of Radiology. Possesses excellent customer service skills. Protect patient privacy and confidentiality. Ability to work effectively with radiologist. Ability to manage patient flow and exams independently and efficiently. Ability to coordinate patient workload in all areas of radiology. Knowledge of patient schedule and how to add a patient to the schedule. Provide assistance with patient call backs and other patient related calls/visits. Uses computer systems effectively and accurately. Verify and release orders in Evident. Start and finish orders in Evident. Has a working knowledge of the mammogram system in Evident. Has a working knowledge of how to send images and store in PACS. Know process for loading priors into PACS. Read all emails. How to enter all information in electronic cover sheet for radiologist and how to send it. Responsible for maintaining all regulatory requirements within the department. All contrast and other medications are stored correctly. All contrast is not expired. Patient confidentiality and privacy are maintained at all times. Maintain a neat and clean work area. Assist Director with regulatory compliance including MQSA & ACR. Assist Director with QC requirements for 3D/Digital Mammograms. Assist Director with data collections. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to communicate effectively with both verbal and written communication skills with patients, management, fellow employees, physicians and families. Ability to recognize, anticipate, and respond to the needs of the patients in a caring, respectful and courteous manner. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to move between offices and radiology rooms. Must be able to lift patients on and off gurneys and/or out of wheelchairs if needed. Must be able to operate at the pace needed to obtain quality images. Must be knowledgeable about section scan protocols and how to perform the tasks associated with each section. Must be able to work with patients, physicians and families even in a stressful situation. Must be able to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, copier/fax machine. REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited radiography program. EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1 year experience as a technologist preferred, or technologist with mammography training/schooling. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: ARRT certificate in Radiography, required. Medical radiographer license in the state of Nebraska, required. Mammography certificate, required. BLS certificate required. #J-18808-Ljbffr
