This Job Description includes activities assigned specifically to the Sanitation Supervisor position at Central Valley Eggs. All GMP’s and SOP’s should be followed in conjunction with all Food Safety and Food Quality requirements and guidelines. The Sanitation Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring that the following tasks are performed in a timely manner.

 

Summary: This position is to complete the day-to-day activities of the Sanitation Supervisor. The sanitation Supervisor is responsible for managing sanitation associates and disassembling, cleaning, sanitizing, and reassembling all production equipment within the Processing plant. This job includes cleaning the entire production line to ensure sterilization. Cleaning and maintaining the Warehouse (Packaging Storage Area), Cooler (Product Storage) Area, outside perimeter of the facility, adjacent rooms (USDA Office, Maintenance Office and Shop, Inedible Room, Sanitation Room, Chemical, Electrical and Boiler Rooms), and the breakroom, office, and restroom areas.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Provide direct daily supervision of assigned direct reports to ensure accuracy and adherence to pertinent policies, practices, and procedures (SOP’s, safety procedures, and biosafety protocols)

·         Prioritize and schedule the workload of assigned direct reports.

·         Partner with Human Resources to assist in the handling of disciplinary issues and drafting the appropriate personnel action documents.

·         Manage retraining and implement change with purpose and urgency.

·         Identify training and development needs of direct reports. Assist in the development, implementation, and delivery of training programs.

·         Responsible for ensuring that all direct reports are trained on each essential job function for their positions, that the training is effective, and that an appropriate record of training has been documented for each essential job function.

·         Responsible for the documentation of training records of all tasks, policies, processes, and procedures that an employee is trained on.

·         Monitor and document the performance of direct reports. Assist and provide regular coaching and counseling.

·         Schedule overtime as authorized. Review and manage timecards in coordination with vacation/time-off schedules.

·         Recommend and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiency, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices.

·         Assist in the communication, training, execution, and maintenance of departmental SOP’s and job descriptions.

·         Serve as a role model to subordinates as it relates to effective time management, communication, and utilization of resources, and provide leadership and motivation to department personnel.

  • Coordinate with the Compliance Manager on shift assignments and requirements.
  • Monitor the cleaning process throughout the shift and coordinate with the Processing Manager on any issues.
  • Ensure GMP and SOP practices are always followed by sanitation associates.
  • Ensure production lines and platforms are properly cleaned and sanitized in a timely manner.
  • Work with maintenance personnel to correct any problems with processing equipment.

·         Responsible for the disassembly and assembly of basic and complex production machinery. Ensure equipment is carefully placed during cleaning. Reassembles equipment using appropriate procedures to ensure proper placement and safe operation.

·         Must be familiar with the order in which equipment and production lines are set up to ensure they are reassembled in the same order, and all pans and trays are replaced in the correct fashion in each machine.

·         During the cleaning process, ensure all equipment, parts, and belts are properly cleaned using standards set by Sanitation and the USDA. Ensure all food and debris are cleared off/under/around equipment prior to the sanitizing stage of the process.

·         Ensure all equipment is sanitized according to State and Federal regulations.

·         Uses pressure washers and other mechanical aids to perform sanitary functions. May use various tools to disassemble and reassemble equipment.

·         Must be able to follow and train on the company policies related to the sanitation job (Listeria Plan, SOPs for Sanitation, Sanitation Checklists, GMP’s, and Pre-Operational Inspection)

·         Must always wear proper Personal Protective Equipment.

·         Communicate conditions of equipment with the Processing Manager.

·         Ensure all soap, hand sanitizer and hand towel units are working properly and supplies are restocked.

·         Ensure that direct reports complete their timesheet daily and submit a completed timecard for approval on the last day worked each workweek.

·         Ensure that direct reports resolve all timecard, attestation, and payroll-related matters and complete the attestation on the last day worked each workweek.

·         Ensure that direct reports have regular, consistent, and predictable attendance per Central Valley Eggs' attendance and punctuality policy.

·         Properly complete the timesheet daily and submit your completed timecard for approval on the last day worked each workweek.

·         Resolve all timecard, attestation, and payroll-related matters and complete the attestation on the last day worked each workweek.

·         Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance per Central Valley Eggs attendance and punctuality policy.

·         Bilingual English/Spanish, both written and verbal, is required.

·         Ability to operate a portable radio is required.

·         Monitor and authorize the entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other people to guard against theft and maintain the security of the premises.

·         Manage effective shuttle operations, such as driving the shuttle bus from the front gate to designated drop-off points throughout the premises (Class C driver's license required).

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

Caution

·         Safety of guards and safety interlock switches furnished as standard equipment for the machine are for your protection. Do not attempt to operate the machine unless all guards are properly installed. Do not bypass safety interlock switches, and do not reach under guards. Any of these practices will expose you to danger and will result in severe injury to yourself and others. Report safety hazards to your supervisor immediately. The use of Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory. Safety is every employee’s responsibility.

 

·         Central Valley Eggs Employees are responsible for informing and reporting all Food Safety, Food Quality and Safety Issues to any Personnel with Authority so that they may initiate Corrective Action.  I fully understand the roles and responsibilities of my assigned position.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

·         A working knowledge of food technology, food science, microbiology or chemistry required.

·         An understanding of pathogens and other food contaminants is required, as well as an understanding of modes of control of various sanitation chemicals and physical cleaning.

·         Leadership competencies that lead and inspire others to achieve exceptional results.

·         Strong quantitative skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to think critically.

·         Ability to operate a portable radio is required.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual English/Spanish is required.

·         Self-directed with the ability to work independently as well as with groups.

·         Ability to effectively plan, organize, and prioritize work.

·         Read and understand chemical labels.

·         Read and understand HACCP along with FDA and OSHA requirements.

·         Must have a basic understanding of inventory methods.

·         Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, including electronically.

·         Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

·         Ability to train, maintain and promote a safe work environment.

·         Reading and comprehension skills are necessary to read, understand and follow SOP’s and other written instructions or work details. English reading and writing abilities.

·         Knowledge of and ability to use computers, run reports, complete accurate data entry, and document information related to all reporting requirements of quality systems and SOPs.

·         Ability and availability to work weekdays and weekends.

·         Willingness to learn, grow and take on more responsibility as required.

·         Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, budgeting, human resources, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

·         Continuously stand for an extended period.

·         Frequently stoop/crouch/bend/climb/push/pull objects to complete the essential functions of this position.

·         Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.

·         Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly.

·         Vision must be sufficient to perform the essential job tasks safely.

·         Ability to safely move 55-gallon drums of chemicals.

·         Ability to safely lift and/or carry up to 35 lbs. regularly, unassisted.

·         Ability to safely lift and/or carry up to 100 lbs. occasionally, with assistance.

 

Education/Experience Requirements:

·         High School Diploma

·         Experience and knowledge in food sanitation operations, procedures, chemicals, and program standards, preferably in a general food or manufacturing industry.

·         HACCP Certification preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; in a food processing plant with a high noise level, storage coolers/facilities and in an office environment. Position requires working around processing plant equipment. Must be physically capable of working extended hours (seasonally) in a wet and/or cold environment, standing for long periods of time, and operating processing equipment

 

HAZARDS:

Potential hazards exist when working around processing plant equipment transportation equipment, in storage facilities/coolers/freezers, and around cleaning chemicals.

 

Note: Valid Driver's License required for insurance purposes. Processing Manager retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of this position at any time.
