Senior Solar Energy Engineer

Black Bear Energy Inc. seeks a Senior Solar Energy Engineer to design, bid for, and project‑manage solar PV, battery, and EV charging systems in Louisville, KY. The role requires 5–10+ years of experience in PV & battery installations, strong knowledge of NEC code, and the ability to develop site‑specific designs. Responsibilities Design, bid for, and project‑manage solar PV, battery, and EV charging installations for a wide range of clients. Develop single‑line diagrams, calculate voltage drops, conduit fills, transformer sizing, and short‑circuit currents. Prepare model PV production using tools such as SAM, PV Syst, or Helioscope, and interpret utility tariffs and interconnection documents. Collaborate with construction teams to ensure accurate installation of AC & DC wiring, communications, and monitoring systems. Oversee commissioning, measurement & verification, and ongoing energy‑management services. Qualifications & Experience 5–10+ years of PV & battery installation experience (small and large commercial). Proficiency with NEC Electrical Code, especially section 690, and PV interconnection documents. Knowledge of AC & DC wiring, communications, and monitoring systems for solar installations. Experience with behind‑the‑meter and ahead‑of‑the‑meter interconnections. Strong modeling skills using SAM, PV Syst, Helioscope, or similar. Desired Skills Revit and AutoCAD experience. Electrical engineering expertise – voltage drop, conduit fill, transformer sizing, and short‑circuit calculations. Understanding of real, reactive, and apparent power. Knowledge of grid‑tied PV systems and microgrid design. Project‑management proficiency and familiarity with construction flow and deadlines. Experience with SMA, SolarEdge, Fronius, and other inverter/software products. Education & Certifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. NABCEP PV Installation, Designer, Commissioning, or Inspector certification is preferred but not required. Benefits 401(k) plan with company match up to 4% of eligible pay.
