Critical Care Registered Nurse

Critical care registered nurses provide care in settings where patients have suffered severe medical issues. Duties and responsibilities include assessing a patient's condition and planning and implementing patient care plans. Nurses treat wounds and provide advanced life support. They assist physicians in performing procedures. Observing and recording patient vital signs is essential. Ensuring that medical equipment functions properly is a key responsibility. Nurses administer intravenous fluids and medications. They perform suctioning as needed. Collaboration with fellow members of the critical care team is required. Nurses respond to life-saving situations, using nursing standards and protocols for treatment. Acting as patient advocates is a vital part of the role. Providing education and support to patient families is also essential. Critical care nurses may care for pre- and post-operative patients. Some nurses serve as case managers and policy makers. Others may perform administrative duties.
