Principal Electrical Engineer

Intuitive Surgical seeks a Staff Electrical Engineer for its Advanced Product Development team to design embedded systems, motor control platforms, and high-speed compute PCAs for robotic surgery applications. The role involves architecture definition, PCB design, system integration, and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced innovation environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, bring-up, and integrate custom printed circuit assemblies for surgical robots
• Architect communication, processing, and electronic subsystem distribution across platforms
• Collaborate on system design with FPGA, mechanical, software, and controls engineers
• Implement actuation components including motor control, sensing, vision, and display systems
• Develop V&V protocols, perform risk analysis, and manage design documentation per medical device standards

Requirements

• BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering minimum
• 12+ years embedded system design industry experience
• Dense PCB design expertise with OrCAD and Allegro proficiency
• Strong digital logic, transmission line theory, and BLDC motor control knowledge
• FPGA experience (Xilinx preferred) and Verilog/ModelSim familiarity
• Product development lifecycle experience from design through manufacturing transfer
• Hands-on debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers
