RN- Telemetry/Observation Unit

This position is for a part-time role in a 30-bed unit specializing in cardiac, medical, and surgical patients. The unit offers an individualized, comprehensive orientation program, a residency program for new graduates, and provides Basic Rhythm, ACLS, and NIHSS courses. Mentorship is available post-orientation, and there are opportunities for committee participation and professional growth through a Clinical Ladder. Leadership presence is present on every shift, and this role serves as a first steppingstone to an ICU/CCU career. The schedule includes an average of 72 hours biweekly with a 12-hour night shift (7-7) and every third weekend, eligible for weekend differential.

The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for implementing, directing, and coordinating the care of patients through the use of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This includes recognition and treatment of the physical and psychosocial changes unique to the age/population group served on the specific unit.

Responsibilities include demonstrating safe medication practice, maintaining a professional image, completing chart checks, accurately transcribing physician's orders, demonstrating therapeutic communication skills, assessing patient education needs, attending staff/committee meetings and in-services, demonstrating leadership through the nursing process and supervision, acting as a resource person regarding patient care, responding to delays in a calm manner, analyzing assessment data, identifying priority problems, using effective problem-solving skills to plan patient care, identifying critical factors evidencing changes in patient condition, completing and documenting discharge assessment against plan of care goals, initiating and maintaining Intravenous Therapy, responding appropriately to emergency situations, utilizing proper body mechanics to prevent injury, functioning as a virtual nurse, demonstrating excellent customer service skills, collaboratively coordinating with other departments, completing accurate problem-focused patient assessment and treatments, providing basic dysrhythmia interpretation and treatment, providing basic and advanced life support, calculating drug dosages, administering continuous medication infusions, monitoring patient response to medications and treatments, performing peritoneal dialysis, demonstrating appropriate technique for bladder scanner, assessing, monitoring, and managing patients requiring renal therapeutic interventions, demonstrating appropriate pre/postoperative patient management, demonstrating understanding and application of pain management techniques, utilizing appropriate fall prevention protocols, rounding with physicians, hemodynamic monitoring, recognizing signs and symptoms of cardiopulmonary emergencies, interpreting arterial blood gas analysis, recognizing indications for and management of patients requiring noninvasive oxygen delivery systems, recognizing indications for and complications of enteral and paraenteral nutrition, completing annual glucometer competency, attending annual skills day for all other unit-specific competencies, accurately completing and transmitting 12 lead EKGs, completing mandatory education and in-services by due date, maintaining general cleanliness of department, demonstrating proper application of external pacemaker, recognizing and evaluating the family's need for enhanced involvement in care to facilitate the transition from hospital to home.

Qualifications include a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, evidence of participation in educational programs to update and maintain current knowledge and clinical skills, experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills, previous nursing experience in specialty area preferred, and various certifications and licensures as required by the specific department.
