IT Support Technician – Desktop, Network & Infrastructure The IT Support Technician provides hands-on desktop, network, and infrastructure support within a manufacturing environment. This position will support end users, computers, printers, network equipment, servers, and other onsite IT infrastructure while helping maintain the overall health and availability of site technology. The role is 100% onsite, with the primary location in Mineral Point, Wisconsin, and additional support responsibilities for facilities in Stoughton and Janesville, Wisconsin. The ideal candidate will have strong desktop support and computer imaging experience, foundational network knowledge, printer support experience, and excellent customer service skills. Key Responsibilities Provide onsite desktop and end-user technical support for computers, peripherals, printers, and related equipment. Image, configure, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows computers. Set up new computers, servers, and other IT equipment according to established procedures. Perform standard maintenance on client devices and servers, including patching, software/agent installation, and incident troubleshooting. Monitor and report on overall site IT health, including client devices, servers, network infrastructure, and data-closet equipment. Assist with the setup and monitoring of data-closet equipment, including servers and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. Support basic server operations and assist the site IT lead as needed. , switches, network ports, and other common network devices. Maintain documentation for network Intermediate Distribution Frame (IDF) changes and network port mappings. Assist with network cable runs and provide guidance to local personnel regarding cable routing and termination. Escort and coordinate with third-party vendors performing maintenance or service on data-closet and infrastructure equipment. Troubleshoot and support network-connected and local printers. Support computer backup and recovery activities using imaging and deployment tools. Work with plant personnel to ensure computers and other devices are used in accordance with established IT standards and best practices. Maintain accurate technical documentation and communicate issues, status, and resolutions to appropriate stakeholders. Provide professional, customer-focused technical support to employees across supported locations. Required Skills & Qualifications 3–5 years of desktop, IT support, or related technical support experience. Strong desktop support and troubleshooting experience. Experience imaging, configuring, deploying, and maintaining Windows computers. Experience supporting printers and common desktop peripherals. Working knowledge of Windows operating systems, including legacy and current Windows environments. Basic understanding of networking concepts, including: TCP/IP Network switching Network ports and connectivity Common network infrastructure and devices Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory. Familiarity with antivirus/endpoint security solutions and basic Windows security settings. Experience with Remote Desktop and remote troubleshooting tools. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Teams, and SharePoint. Familiarity with Telnet, PuTTY, or similar connectivity/terminal tools. Experience using imaging software for computer deployment, backup, and recovery. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities. Preferred Technical Experience Experience supporting Windows XP through Windows 11 environments. Familiarity with Windows Server 2008 through 2019. Experience supporting IT infrastructure within a manufacturing, plant, or other industrial environment. Exposure to server-room or data-closet equipment and operations. Experience documenting network port mappings and IDF changes. Basic experience with structured cabling and cable termination. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional IT education, technical training, or industry certifications are preferred.
