Do you enjoy working with people, staying active, and helping create a safe and welcoming environment? As a Pool Attendant at Crossroads YMCA, you'll play an important role in helping members, guests, and program participants have a safe, positive, and enjoyable experience in and around the pool. Every day is different. You may be checking members into programs, making sure pool areas are being used properly, assisting with supplies, helping respond to an emergency, or simply being a friendly and attentive presence on the pool deck. This role is ideal for someone who is responsible, dependable, comfortable enforcing rules, and enjoys working with people of all ages.

What You Can Expect

No two shifts are exactly alike. You will:

• Help maintain a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for members, guests, and program participants.
• Monitor the surrounding pool area and ensure members and guests are following proper use and safety expectations.
• Check members and guests into programs accurately and provide helpful, friendly service.
• Be prepared and "relationship ready" by having the supplies, information, and documents needed for your shift.
• Know and review emergency procedures and respond immediately and appropriately to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
• Assist with emergencies and support staff as needed.
• Complete required reports and documentation related to safety or emergency situations.
• Assist staff with gathering supplies and preparing the area as needed.
• Help enforce rules and safely operate or monitor designated attractions and areas.
• Remain calm, professional, and objective when under pressure or when challenged by others.
• Model the Crossroads YMCA Staff Pledge to help ensure every participant has a great experience.
• Support the Aquatics team and other departments with additional duties as needed.

You should expect to:

• Remain alert and attentive while monitoring the surrounding pool and activity areas.
• Monitor multiple activities and interactions while maintaining awareness of your surroundings.
• Enforce rules and safety expectations while maintaining a positive and respectful member experience.
• Remain calm and objective when responding to challenging situations.
• Respond quickly and appropriately when safety concerns or emergencies arise.
• Work in an environment that may be humid, damp, warm, busy, and noisy.
• Spend extended periods standing, walking, or sitting.
• Work independently while also communicating and collaborating with other YMCA staff.
• Maintain consistent attention throughout your shift because creating a safe environment depends on your awareness and presence.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years of age.
• Ability to enforce rules and safely operate or monitor designated attractions and areas.
• Ability to respond appropriately to safety concerns and emergency situations.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate and build positive relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Previous aquatics, recreation, customer service, or related experience is helpful but not required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to:

• Work in a variety of environments, including areas subject to humidity, dampness, and heat.
• Remain alert and attentive throughout the work shift.
• Communicate verbally and project your voice across distances when needed.
• Communicate with emergency response personnel by telephone when necessary.
• Demonstrate sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform job responsibilities.
• Stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time.
• Occasionally stoop, bend, and move throughout the pool and surrounding areas.
• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
• Respond quickly and appropriately to safety concerns and emergency situations.
