Position Overview Are you a Registered Nurse looking to make a difference in the lives of children and families in Connecticut? The State of Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) is recruiting for a Nurse at our hospital in Middletown, CT. Position Highlights Location: Sachem, Middletown, CT Full‑time, 40 hours per week Shift: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (1st Shift) Days off: Week One – Saturday, Sunday; Week Two – Friday, Tuesday Responsibilities Independently implements the nursing process, including assessments, medication administration, monitoring patient condition and documentation. Provides nursing care for individuals with serious emotional disorders. Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning and implementation. Administers treatments, changes dressings, maintains medication and equipment supplies. Documents interventions and reports on physiological and mental health status. Distributes and safeguards controlled drugs. Responds to emergencies and may provide rescue or restraint when necessary. Assists in outpatient clinics, physical examinations, and routine testing. Educates patients, families and staff regarding treatment plans. Participates in psychotherapeutic and rehabilitation interventions. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, ethics and current medications. Understanding of medical, therapeutic and psychiatric nursing interventions. Ability to apply quality standards, procedures and protocols. Sensitivity to cultural and socio‑economic differences. Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability to act as a role model, teach professional behaviors, and develop therapeutic relationships. Ability to respond to emergencies, seek supervision, and encourage teamwork. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Experience working in a behavioral health hospital, serving youth with complex psychiatric profiles. License or temporary permit as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut or a Multistate/Compact Registered Nurse license. Fluency in a foreign language or proficiency in American Sign Language for certain positions (if required). May be required to travel.
