Job Overview

Our nursing team operates in collaborative settings with robust interdisciplinary groups, emphasizing a patient-centered care approach in a diverse work environment. Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, registered nurses apply evidence-based practices in line with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, and directives from the medical staff. Utilizing their knowledge and skills, registered nurses develop care plans that address the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and their families.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Experience: At least one (1) year of experience or successful completion of the Nurse Residency Program at Backus Hospital.
  • License and Certification: Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in good standing in the State of Connecticut. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire. Must be able to obtain and maintain department-specific certifications.
Preferred Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
  • Experience: Two (2) or more years of experience in the relevant clinical area.
  • License and Certification: Certification in the clinical specialty area. CNOR certification is a plus.

  • Fundamental understanding of nursing principles and practices.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying technical or complex information and instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with departments, colleagues, physicians, managers, and patients.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities, demonstrate flexibility, and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Able to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
  • Dedication to customer service.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
Problem Solving and Decision Making

This role requires a high level of analytical ability to gather and interpret information from various sources. The ability to respond appropriately to changes, challenges, problems, and emergency situations is essential. Maintaining confidentiality at all times is a critical responsibility.
