Controls Engineer

\n

Location: Shelbyville, IN

\n

Duration: 6-Month Contract (Potential Extension)

\n

Schedule: 6 Days/Week | Must Be Flexible to Work Any Shift

\n

Environment: 24/7 Manufacturing Facility

\n

\n

Overview

\n

Brooksource is seeking two highly skilled Controls Engineers to support a major automotive glass manufacturing facility in Shelbyville, IN. This is a hands-on manufacturing support role focused on troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving existing automation and controls systems within a fast-paced, 24/7 production environment.

\n

The ideal candidate will have a strong industrial automation background and be comfortable supporting legacy equipment, Allen Bradley PLCs, drives, and robotic systems. This position is heavily focused on day-to-day operational support rather than controls design, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys diagnosing equipment issues and keeping production running efficiently.

\n

Key Responsibilities

\n
    \n
  • Provide hands-on controls and automation support for daily manufacturing operations.
  • \n
  • Troubleshoot PLCs, drives, robotics, and automated production equipment to minimize downtime.
  • \n
  • Diagnose electrical and controls system failures and implement corrective actions.
  • \n
  • Support production processes including glass cutting, grinding, painting, heat treatment, and final assembly operations.
  • \n
  • Work closely with maintenance technicians and production personnel to resolve equipment issues.
  • \n
  • Maintain and optimize legacy automation systems and controls hardware.
  • \n
  • Support off-shift operations as needed within a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • \n
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability and process efficiency.
  • \n
\n

Required Qualifications

\n
    \n
  • 5+ years of Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related industrial controls experience.
  • \n
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • \n
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and Allen Bradley VFDs.
  • \n
  • Ability to diagnose and support existing automation systems rather than solely performing controls design work.
  • \n
  • Experience working with legacy controls equipment and older production systems.
  • \n
  • Comfortable working independently and supporting critical production issues.
  • \n
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including any shift and 6 days per week.
  • \n
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • \n
\n

Preferred Qualifications

\n
    \n
  • Experience supporting Fanuc robotics.
  • \n
  • Experience with ABB robotic systems.

What We're Looking For

\n

This team needs a true plant-floor controls professional who enjoys troubleshooting and supporting production equipment. Success in this role will come from being highly hands-on, comfortable working with legacy automation systems, and able to quickly respond to production issues in a demanding 24/7 manufacturing environment. Candidates seeking primarily controls design or project-based engineering work are unlikely to be a fit.
