Registered Nurse - Emergency Room - Full time

Job Overview Department EMERGENCY ROOM NURSING – 206230. The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effectively carry out the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation and time management. The role requires quality communication, teamwork and leadership/professionalism. The nurse also directs, coordinates, and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. An RN II is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned and must complete yearly mandatory competencies, unit‑specific competencies identified by the Director/Designee, and the Professional Practice Ladder requirements. The nurse assumes responsibility as Charge Nurse, participates in PI Activity and department initiatives, communicates and shares information with the Director/Designee and co‑workers from unit or hospital committees, attends Valley Health paid Education/Seminar/Conference workshops or Nursing Articles and maintains an up‑to‑date portfolio submitted annually by March1st. The nurse routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review for the unit, and develops a bulletin board or poster providing educational information to staff, patients and family members. Qualifications Education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing (RN Diploma, ASN or ADN) is required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Experience: advancement to this level requires a minimum of 1872 full‑time or part‑time hours (936 if hold BSN) of RN experience and completion of a performance evaluation. The RN must be competent to provide care based on the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development, and must be able to use the nursing process. A reliable phone line for hospital communication is required. Licenses and Certifications RN license required. The candidate must hold a license or be eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the applicable state of work assignment (Virginia and/or WestVirginia) either under the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) or with a single‑state license. BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Maternal and Healthcare Provider (AHA) approved – is required; new hires must obtain American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation. Relevant specialty certification is preferred.
