RN - ICU

ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: North Charleston, SC

Unit Type: Mixed ICU with 28 beds

Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:3 (includes holding inpatient PCU/med surg admissions)

Documentation System: Meditech

Equipment: Mobile computer workstation on wheels, i-mobile phones for each care team member

Scheduling Requirements: 3 shifts of 12 hours weekly, including every other weekend

Floating Policy: Travelers are the first to float; potential assignments may include the emergency department or PCU

Patient Experience Method: Bedside shift report for patient handoff

Experience: Minimum of 36 months RN experience, with at least 12 months in an ICU setting

Travel Experience: At least one previous successful travel nursing assignment, preferably in a facility utilizing Meditech

Core Competencies:

• Ability to care for 1-3 ICU patients
• Comfortable managing patients on ventilators
• Proficient in reading telemetry strips

Advanced Skills:

• CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
• Advanced Hemodynamics
• Phlebotomy
• Administering respiratory treatments (inhalers and nebulizers) outside of ICU

Procedures Performed on Unit:

• Post-operative care for CABG patients (fresh heart from OR)
• Management of Impellas and balloon pumps
• Use of Swan Ganz catheters
• Neuro procedures for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (EVDs, bolts, Codman)
• Experience with Arctic Sun for induced hypothermia

Preferred Education: BSN

Preferred Certifications: Advanced Certifications, TNCC Certification

Dress Code: Navy uniform required.

Training Opportunities: We are willing to train travelers who are interested in specializing as Neuro ICU nurses or Cardiovascular ICU nurses. Opportunities also exist to work with patients undergoing head and neck flap procedures, as we offer one of the limited specialized programs nationwide.
