Child and Youth Program Cook

Summary The Child and Youth Program (CYP) Cook performs a variety of food preparation and food service tasks for children at the Child Development Center and may assist with preparation for the School Age Care Program. Responsibilities Prepare and cook all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, sauces, and gravies according to standardized recipes. Season, portion, and schedule cooking procedures to meet timing and temperature requirements. Modify recipes and portion sizes to accommodate equipment and serving demands. Design and implement specialized kitchen procedures, monitor temperatures and steam pressures, evaluate food quality, and adjust cooking as needed. Maintain kitchen cleanliness: clean serving carts, prep areas, dishwashers, utensils, exhaust hoods, walk‑in refrigerators, and garbage rooms. Label and date all food items, store leftovers per sanitation standards, and unload supplies from delivery trucks. Ensure compliance with security, fire, sanitation rules, and USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) standards. Serve as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge of food handling techniques, hygiene standards, and safe work procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of large‑scale food preparation principles and recipe development. Experience in sanitation practices and corrective action for quality issues. Ability to manage simultaneous cooking processes and maintain product safety. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Requirements Valid food handler’s card. Successful completion of E‑Verify, pre‑employment physical, immunization, and background checks (NACI). Ability to complete required training certificates and maintain credentials.
