Job Summary

The San Luis Coastal Unified School District is looking for new Custodial team members.


The purpose of this job posting is to create an eligibility list to fill current vacancies for the position of Custodian I. The eligibility list created by this recruitment may also be used to fill any vacancies that occur over a six-month period.


Employees of the Buildings and Grounds Department at SLCUSD share responsibility for providing clean, safe schools and offices for students, staff, and visitors. Custodians clean and maintain assigned buildings and grounds, and perform related duties as assigned. Additional details and essential job functions are outlined in the job description.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Driver's License Copy (IMPORTANT: A valid California driver's license will need to be presented upon being offered a position; and candidates must have a good driving history. Driving records will be confirmed. )
• Letter(s) of Recommendation (OPTIONAL: A signed letter from a professional reference (preferably drafted within the past two years, and on letterhead))

Comments and Other Information

*This posting will be used to create an eligibility list for the Custodian I classification, to fill current vacancies, and any vacancies that may arise over a six-month period. Eligible candidates will be invited to an exam, and with a passing exam score, will be invited to an oral board interview. Candidates who pass both the exam and interview will be placed on the eligibility list, which will be valid for six months. The top three ranks of candidates on the eligibility list will be contacted for a hiring interview each time a vacancy arises.


Assessment: An assessment will be scheduled individually with each candidate eligible to move forward.
Oral Board Interview: Candidates who pass the assessment will be invited to an oral board interview, date TBD.
Hiring interview: Top three ranks of candidates (plus one for each additional vacancy) after exam and oral board scores are combined will move to a hiring interview, date TBD.


SLCUSD has school sites in San Luis Obispo, Los Osos and Morro Bay. Location of vacancies are subject to change based on in-house transfers or needs of the district. Applicants must pass Fingerprint, physical, and TB clearances after a contingent job offer is made, and must have a valid California driver's license and a good driving history (will be verified via a DMV Pull Notice Authorization Form).


SPECIAL NOTES: 1) Correctly filling out forms and following other instructions contained in this notice are part of the testing process. 2) Applicants with disabilities need to notify the Personnel Office of any special needs so that adequate preparation may be made for their testing. 3) Veterans qualifying for the oral board examination may receive 5 additional points added to their final score if proof of discharge is submitted at time of oral board interview. A "veteran" as used here means any person who served in the United States armed forces in time of war, or national emergency. 4) Eligibility lists are established for a period of six months.
