FIREFIGHTER (PARAMEDIC)

Job TitleThe duties include responding to emergencies as a member of an Engine Company, Truck Company, Rescue Company, Hazardous Materials Team and/or Ambulance Team. Administer medications and solutions orally or intravenously under the direction of standing orders or of an off-site physician. Interpret an electrocardiogram (EKG) for a patient with an unstable heartbeat to determine future medical treatment. Provide invasive airway procedures (e.g., needle or surgical cricothyrotomy, pleural decompression, endotracheal intubation, nasal intubation). Combat fires in difficult and dangerous environments (e.g., small passages, small compartments, confined or unventilated areas, or fuel tanks). Enter confined spaces to perform patient care, rescue and recovery. Extract a trapped patient to prevent further harm during removal. Perform thorough safety and maintenance inspections on emergency transport vehicles. Participate in daily training and instruction classes covering all phases of fire protection, fire prevention and emergency medical services.
