Data Governance Specialist

Position Summary KBR is seeking a mid‑level Data Governance Specialist to join our team in Dayton, OH or Remote. US citizenship and the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance are required. In this role, you will provide expertise and strategic vision for the US Air Force to establish a Data Management and Governance framework. Key Responsibilities Expected to work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment. Develop and implement Data Governance framework and methodologies, including strategy, approach, timelines, objectives, and success criteria. Assess current state of data fidelity, data security, privacy, and data retention. Contribute to the strategic roadmap for a data governance framework and collaborate with stakeholders during design and implementation. Identify organizational components within the framework, such as governing body/council comprised of data owners, stewards, and architects. Develop and maintain metadata standards, business glossaries, data dictionaries, and enterprise data catalogs. Support data asset inventory, classification, discoverability, and reuse initiatives. Facilitate trusted data sharing across organizations while ensuring appropriate security and access controls. Lead data stewardship workgroups, governance councils, and stakeholder engagement activities. Conduct data maturity assessments and develop improvement roadmaps. Develop governance charters, stewardship operating procedures, governance metrics, and decision‑rights frameworks. Provide guidance on governance considerations supporting AI, ML, analytics, and Digital Engineering initiatives. Collaborate with domain experts, EA, IT, and Data Architects to ensure platforms uphold privacy, security, and compliance. Stay current on new and emerging data governance best practices. Participate in strategic planning and tactical decision‑making. Location & Travel Onsite in Dayton, OH or Remote. Minimal travel required. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. 8+ years of experience in the data industry, 4+ years within a formal Data Governance program. Experience with contemporary data governance, metadata management, and data catalog platforms such as Collibra, Informatica DG, Alation, Erwin Data Intelligence, or equivalent. Implementation and operationalization of enterprise Data Governance programs from strategy to execution. Solid understanding of Data Management and Governance concepts, metadata management, business glossary development, data lineage, and enterprise data cataloging. Experience leading data stewardship workgroups and teams. Conducting data maturity assessments and developing strategic improvement plans. Knowledge of DoD Data Strategy, Digital Transformation initiatives, and Data‑Centric modernization efforts. Understanding of governance considerations for AI, ML, and advanced analytics environments. Proven ability to establish effective working relationships with stakeholders at different levels. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; technical writing and presentation skills a plus. Quick learner; flexible; process oriented; highly organized and proactive. Ability to work independently and within a team. Critical listening and thinking skills. US Citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance. Desired Qualifications Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field. Familiarity with key industry best practices: data protection, access control, data enrichment, data quality operations, Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK), Master Data Management. Subject Matter Expertise for data governance and data management concepts. Compensation Estimated salary range: $110,000–$160,000 (Ohio area). Offered rate based on location, experience, clearance level, and internal parity.
