Charge Nurse - Part-Time Medical Unit Leader (Contract)

Location Deer's Head Hospital Center, Salisbury, MD Grade 20 Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this part-time contractual position is to lead and provide nursing care on the unit during assigned shifts. The role includes assigning, reviewing, approving, and training Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and non‑licensed nursing or support staff during the shift. Minimum Qualifications Education: Licensure as a Registered Nurse as required by the Maryland State Board of Nursing. Experience: Two years as a Registered Nurse, at least one year in the Medical option. Notes Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university for the one year of general experience. Candidates may substitute a Master’s degree in nursing or a health‑related field from an accredited college or university for the required experience. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience. Licenses, Registrations and Certifications Candidates must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing or a current multi‑state license in the states declared as primary residence. Employees may be required to operate an automobile and must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland. Employees may be required to complete and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification. Special Requirements The position is subject to call‑in; employees must provide a reachable phone number. Employees are required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09. Benefits Contractual employees who work 30 or more hours a week (or an average of 130 hours per month) are eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and dependents under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program. The State of Maryland subsidizes 75% of the premiums; employees pay the remaining 25%. Employees may also elect to enroll in dental, accidental death and dismemberment, and life insurance, paying full premiums. Leave may be granted at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
