Job Description:\n\nRole Summary\nThe Manager, Maintenance & Safety is responsible for leading the functions and systems that enable safe, reliable and compliant manufacturing operations at Bimeda’s Le Sueur, Minnesota facility. \nThis role provides leadership for maintenance, facilities, utilities, asset reliability, environmental health and safety, contractor management, and infrastructure improvement activities. The Manager ensures that manufacturing equipment, facility systems, and supporting infrastructure are maintained in a condition that supports employee safety, product quality, regulatory compliance, and uninterrupted production. \nThe Manager will serve as a visible safety leader, partnering closely with teams and department leaders to strengthen the site’s safety culture, reduce workplace risk, investigate incidents, and ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety, environmental, and company requirements. \nThe successful candidate will be a visible hands-on leader who combines strategic thinking with practical execution, develops high-performing teams, and establishes disciplined processes that support long-term manufacturing performance. \n\nMorning Shift : Monday - Friday\n\nRole Specific Requirements\nSafety Leadership and Culture • Lead the continued development and improvement of the site environmental health and safety program. • Establish visible safety leadership practices that promote employee engagement, accountability, and proactive risk identification. • Partner with site leadership to strengthen safety culture and integrate safety into daily operational decisionmaking. • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and company safety and environmental requirements. • Lead and support safety initiatives including hazard assessments, incident investigations, corrective actions, contractor safety, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance activities. • Ensure safety programs, procedures, training, and documentation are effectively maintained. • Promote an environment where employees are encouraged to identify hazards, report concerns, and participate in risk reduction. Maintenance and Asset Reliability • Provide leadership for maintenance and reliability activities supporting the Le Sueur manufacturing site. • Ensure manufacturing equipment, utilities, and facility systems are maintained in a safe, reliable, and compliant condition. • Establish maintenance strategies that improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and support production objectives. • Lead preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs. • Establish reliability improvement processes including asset criticality assessments, root-cause analysis, failure investigations, and lifecycle planning. • Monitor maintenance performance through appropriate metrics, including preventive maintenance effectiveness, downtime, backlog, repeat failures, and reliability performance. • Ensure maintenance activities are appropriately planned, prioritized, documented, and completed. • Lead major maintenance activities, shutdowns, equipment repairs, and reliability improvement projects.\nPromote an environment where employees are encouraged to identify hazards, report concerns, and participate in risk reduction. \nFacilities, Utilities and Infrastructure • Provide leadership for facility systems and utilities supporting manufacturing operations. • Ensure critical systems, including HVAC, electrical systems, compressed air, water systems, fire protection, and other utilities, are maintained and operated appropriately. • Identify infrastructure risks and develop strategies for repair, replacement, and capital investment. • Support equipment installation, facility improvements, expansions, and infrastructure projects. • Ensure new and modified equipment is properly evaluated, installed, documented, and incorporated into maintenance programs. \nQuality Systems and Regulatory Compliance • Ensure maintenance and facility activities comply with cGMP requirements, approved procedures, and applicable regulatory expectations. • Maintain strong documentation practices supporting equipment history, maintenance records, and compliance requirements. • Partner with Quality Assurance to assess and manage the impact of equipment failures, utility interruptions, and maintenance activities. • Support validation activities, change controls, deviations, CAPAs, audits, and regulatory inspections. • Ensure maintenance-related corrective actions are effectively implemented and sustained. \nLeadership, Collaboration and Continuous Improvement • Lead, coach, and develop maintenance, facilities, and safety personnel. • Establish goals and priorities aligned with site safety, quality, reliability, service, and cost objectives. • Build technical capability through training, qualification, cross-training, and succession planning. • Partner with Production and other site functions to balance operational needs with safety, quality, compliance, and reliability requirements. • Lead structured problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk, improve reliability, and enhance operational performance. • Participate as an active member of the Le Sueur site leadership team. • Communicate operational risks, resource needs, and improvement opportunities effectively to leadership. \nBudget, Contractors and Capital Projects • Develop and manage maintenance, safety, and infrastructure-related budgets. • Identify opportunities to improve cost performance while maintaining safety, quality, compliance, and reliability. • Develop and support capital proposals related to equipment replacement, facility improvements, reliability, and risk reduction. • Manage contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure safety, quality, documentation, and performance expectations are met. • Ensure contractor activities are appropriately planned, supervised, and documented. \nSupervisory Responsibilities Provides leadership for maintenance, facilities, and safety personnel supporting the Le Sueur site including: • Workforce planning and scheduling • Recruiting and onboarding • Training and qualification • Performance management • Coaching and development • Work prioritization • Succession planning \nPlease note that this job description is not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to undertake other relevant duties commensurate with the grading of the post. INTEGRITY/PERSONAL CREDIBILITY – Demonstrated ability and concern that one be perceived as responsible, reliable, and trustworthy. \n\nOther Requirements:\nEssential • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial technology, occupational safety, facilities management, or a related technical field; equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered. • Seven or more years of progressive experience in maintenance, engineering, facilities, equipment reliability, manufacturing operations, safety, or related disciplines. • Experience leading technical teams, maintenance organizations, safety programs, or comparable manufacturing functions. • Experience working in regulated manufacturing environments. • Demonstrated experience with: o Maintenance and reliability programs o Root-cause analysis and problem solving o Contractor management o Facility systems o Safety management systems o Continuous improvement initiatives • Strong communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills. \nDesirable • Experience in pharmaceutical, animal-health, medical-device, food, chemical, or other FDA-regulated manufacturing. • Experience with cGMP requirements, Good Documentation Practices, ALCOA+ principles, change control, deviations, CAPA, equipment qualification, regulatory inspections • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) • Experience managing capital projects and infrastructure improvements. \nKey Performance Indicators Success in this role may be measured through: • Employee and contractor safety performance • Completion of safety inspections, training, and corrective actions • Recordable injuries, near-miss reporting, and recurrence prevention • Preventive maintenance completion and schedule compliance • Unplanned equipment downtime • Repeat equipment failures • Emergency versus planned maintenance work • Maintenance backlog and aging • Equipment and utility reliability • Timely completion of deviations, CAPAs, audit actions, and change controls • Maintenance documentation accuracy and timeliness • Critical spare-parts availability • Maintenance and safety budget performance • Capital-project execution • Employee training, qualification, engagement, and development \nPhysical Requirements • Ability to work effectively in manufacturing, warehouse, mechanical, utility, laboratory-support, and office environments. • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods while regularly engaging with employees and operations throughout the facility. • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access equipment and utility areas as required. • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and work around manufacturing equipment and facility systems. • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with appropriate assistance when required. • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with site safety requirements. • Ability to work around noise, chemicals, powders, moving machinery, electrical equipment, and varying temperatures while following established safety controls. • Ability to respond to urgent equipment, facility, safety, or operational events outside normal working hours when necessary. \nWork Environment and Schedule This position is primarily based at the Bimeda manufacturing facility in Le Sueur, Minnesota. The role requires regular presence on the manufacturing floor, in maintenance and utility areas, and throughout the facility. The position generally works during normal business hours but must be flexible to support multi-shift operations, planned shutdowns, emergency repairs, regulatory inspections, and significant safety or facility events. Occasional evening, weekend, holiday, or on-call support may be required.
