Assistant Athletic Trainer

The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work under the medical supervision of the head team physician and is responsible for working with the day-to-day athletic training operations for the assigned sport(s). Collaborate with Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition and Mental Health providers and assist the Director of Athletic Training with other administrative duties as assigned.

Injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes; pre-participation physicals; maintaining medical records and submitting medical documentation; completing required insurance claims; daily interaction and communication with coaching staff, team physicians, resident athletic trainers, and administration; attending team practices, game coverage and events (including travel to away games); injury track and analysis, appointment scheduling, direct oversight of student workers; serving as the clinical mentor to students in training and manages injury prevention programming.

Current National Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers, CPR and AED Certification for healthcare workers by an accredited organization, Current or eligible State of Maryland Athletic Trainer Licensure. Physical demands include standing for long periods, moving items up to 50 pounds, assisting injured individuals, climbing, stooping, running, typing, and working with various medical equipment. Ability to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, extended periods without days off, travel, and be on-call as a regular part of the daily job.

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a certified athletic trainer in a collegiate or professional sports organization. Other: Additional work experience may substitute for up to four (4) years of the required education. Current National Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers, CPR and AED Certification for healthcare workers by an accredited organization, and current or eligible State of Maryland Athletic Trainer Licensure required. Knowledge of injury prevention and rehabilitation. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.

Preferences: Master's degree from an accredited athletic training educational program degree or related field. Five years of experience with collegiate or professional baseball or softball. Strong background in upper extremity evaluation and management, including throwing specific rehab, prevention strategies and return to sport programing. Experience coordinating and managing physicians appointments and care plans.
