Insurance Authorization Specialist

This is an important opportunity for a detail-oriented healthcare operations professional to support seamless patient care by managing insurance authorization processes. In this role, you will ensure services receive timely payer approval while helping protect revenue and reduce administrative barriers to care. You will collaborate closely with clinical teams, scheduling, billing, and insurance representatives to maintain accurate documentation and resolve authorization challenges. Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, authorization requirements, and medical necessity criteria before services are provided. Prepare and submit complete authorization requests with required clinical documentation and supporting information. Monitor pending authorizations, communicate with payers, and proactively follow up to prevent delays in service delivery. Track authorization expiration dates and coordinate renewals to avoid interruptions in care. Review approved units, service dates, authorization numbers, and payer information to ensure accurate system records. Partner with revenue cycle teams to resolve authorization-related billing issues and minimize preventable denials. Identify authorization trends, recurring challenges, and opportunities to improve processes and reimbursement outcomes. Maintain accurate documentation within electronic health record systems and payer portals while ensuring compliance with healthcare privacy requirements. Collaborate with clinical, scheduling, credentialing, and administrative teams to communicate authorization status and required actions. Support audits and maintain high standards of documentation accuracy and regulatory compliance. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Minimum of 2 years of prior authorization experience within a healthcare environment. Experience working with commercial insurance, Medicaid, managed care, or similar payer systems is preferred. Familiarity with electronic health records, healthcare billing, and revenue cycle processes. Strong understanding of medical terminology and insurance authorization procedures. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and healthcare information systems. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and follow-up activities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in documentation and data entry. Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams. Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to resolving authorization issues. Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining productivity and accountability.
