Stormwater Operator I - Tree Management

PAY RATE: $20.00/HR. Position Summary Performs semi‑skilled and limited skilled work in the maintenance of streets, stormwater and rights‑of‑way maintenance. Employees may be assigned to one or several functions within the classification depending upon the needs of the department. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs semi‑skilled work for jobs related to tree trimming tasks. Performs limited skilled work in streets, rights‑of‑ways, and waterways using first‑level maintenance equipment. Washes, cleans, and gives routine first‑level maintenance to equipment. Operates pressure, chain saws, trimmers, chipper/shredder, stump grinder, small trucks, and automotive equipment. Assists team in traffic control. Assists with obtaining tools and materials needed for work, and in setting up barricades and other warning devices to channel traffic around construction areas or hazards. May be required for standby and/or after‑hour duties. Prepares daily activity sheets and other documentation as required. Performs other job duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of principles, practices, methods, materials and tools of several trades. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to prepare and maintain records on activities. Ability to apply all applicable safety measures. Ability to be a dedicated, supportive member of our team. Skill in the operation and maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment of the trades. Ability to perform manual work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods. Ability to work in or around traffic and underground utilities (electric, gas, phone/fiber optics, cable TV, water, sewer lines, etc.). Must be capable of working above 75‑feet in height. Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of one year experience in related work, with tree maintenance, pruning, removal, and care experience preferred. Certificates and Licenses Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and be insurable by the City’s current insurance provider. National Incident Management System (NIMS) training will be required within one (1) year of employment. Supervisory Responsibilities N/A Essential Physical Abilities Physical requirements include heavy lifting and carrying (45 lbs. and over), moderate lifting and carrying (15‑44 lbs.), light lifting and carrying (under 15 lbs.), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands, climbing (legs and arms or legs only), good near and distant vision, depth perception, basic color discrimination, hearing, straight pulling, pulling hand over hand, pushing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, balancing, stooping, jumping, running, throwing, driving cars, vans, pickups and operating heavy equipment, towing and backing equipment trailers. Environmental Conditions Work may occur inside or outside, in heat, cold, high humidity, dampness, dryness, noisy, dusty, silica, asbestos, fumes, smoke, chemicals, solvents, grease, radiant energy, electrical energy, on slippery or uneven surfaces, with moving objects, ladders, scaffolding, at heights above ground level, below ground level, in water, with explosives, poor ventilation, odors, or unusual fatigue factors. Emergency Responsibilities In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, Emergency Management or City Administration, possibly before, during, or after the emergency/disaster.
