What You’ll Do: In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to design complex interstate geometrics and local road projects. Depending on your experience, you may also lead a design team, with both immediate and long‑term growth potential. Roadway Design: Take charge of the design and plan preparation for both highway and local road projects. Quality Assurance: Lead internal quality reviews to ensure that plans meet the highest technical standards. Mentorship: Provide guidance and feedback to junior engineers, helping them grow professionally. Proposal Development: Assist in preparing and negotiating project fee proposals. Project Scheduling and Budgeting: Prepare design schedules, construction cost estimates, and deliver staged project submittals on time and within budget. Client Interaction: Build and maintain strong client relationships through presentations and regular communication. Scope and Change Management: Recognize scope changes and assist with contract negotiations when necessary. Team Collaboration: Work closely with a talented team of engineers, technicians, and administrative staff to successfully execute transportation projects. What You’ll Bring: We are looking for an experienced engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and has the technical and leadership skills to drive success. The ideal candidate will have: Education and Experience BS in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited College or University A Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina is required, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months. Proficiency in the design, preparation, and delivery of roadway design plans (NCDOT design experience preferred). Skills & Knowledge Familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA, and NCDOT standards. Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and AutoCAD. Prior experience managing projects, including developing proposals and overseeing project timelines and budgets. A background in mentoring or managing teams, with the ability to collaborate effectively and independently. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients and team members alike.
