Accountant

AccountantThis Accountant supports the WCIB Commercial Lending Controller team, which is responsible for maintaining strong accounting oversight, controls, and financial reporting support for the business. As the team continues to centralize accounting activities and enhance processes, this role will support manual journal entry operations, account reconciliations, audit readiness, reporting, and control development. The position plays an important role in strengthening accounting processes, improving documentation, and supporting standardization efforts across the organization.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain and reconcile general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts.Process and support manual journal entries and related accounting activities.Prepare financial statements, accounting reports, and management reporting.Develop and maintain accounting controls, procedures, and documentation.Support audit requests and regulatory reporting requirements.Respond to inquiries regarding accounting policies, procedures, and accounting issues.Perform account reconciliations and research accounting-related questions.Identify opportunities to improve and standardize accounting processes.Support reporting, analysis, and process improvement initiatives.Maintain and enhance automated accounting systems and reporting tools.Basic QualificationsBachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent work experienceFive to eight years of experience in financial accounting activitiesPreferred Skills/ExperienceExperience with manual journal entries, account reconciliations, and accounting operationsExperience supporting financial audits and audit documentationExperience developing, documenting, and improving accounting controls and processesExperience with accounting reporting and analysisExperience working within a controller organizationBanking or financial services industry experience preferredProficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applicationsIntermediate to advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, and XLOOKUPExperience with Workday and Essbase/SmartView preferredConsiderable knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulationsAbility to identify and resolve exceptions and analyze dataDemonstrated initiative, critical thinking, and a willingness to learn and growCPA or CMA preferredLocation Expectations:This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.Benefits:Healthcare (medical, dental, vision)Basic term and optional term life insuranceShort-term and long-term disabilityPregnancy disability and parental leave401(k) and employer-funded retirement planPaid vacation (from two to five weeks depending on salary grade and tenure)Up to 11 paid holiday opportunitiesAdoption assistanceSick and Safe Leave accruals of one hour for every 30 worked, up to 80 hours per calendar year unless otherwise provided by lawU.S. Bank is an equal opportunity employer.
