Material Handler

Reports to: Production Supervisor(s)

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 5:00am - 3:30pm - possible OT on Fridays

Job Summary: The Material Handler is responsible for correctly and efficiently transferring product and materials within the facility to maintain on-time production and customer delivery. This position reports directly to Operations but will work closely with the Materials, Quality, and Warehouse departments. This is a floating Material Handler position that will be expected to work at any of the Wabash, IN Living Essential locations based on business needs. A valid drivers license and reliable transportation are required for this role.

Essential Functions:
  • Receive and ship finished goods and materials from manufacturing locations and suppliers. Correctly fill out paperwork required to ship and receive material.
  • Move material efficiently to/from storage locations following first in, first out (FIFO) inventory movement at all times.
  • Able to operate dock areas, dock doors, and overhead doors.
  • Inspect and receive incoming pallets, including use of moisture meter.
  • Understand how to pick orders and product transfers.
  • Operate material handling equipment to move and load orders on trailers using powered industrial trucks.
  • Inspect forklift at start of shift and complete the Forklift Pre-flight Checklist.
  • Fill out trailer inspection forms as needed.
  • Properly seal trailers prior to shipment.
  • Regularly communicate with appreciate leaders, shipping office, and management regarding order status and shortages/exceptions.
  • Operate scanners to process orders and move material with warehouse management system and investigate and resolve scanning issues/errors.
  • Identify and reconcile inventory discrepancies by working with the appropriate leaders and team members.
  • Perform daily/weekly/monthly cycle counts.
  • Create and print labels as needed. Report any out of rotation or close to code/out of code product to floor leadership and management. Correct and fix as directed.
  • Dump trash hoppers and remove recycled pallets, cardboard, and plastic.
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned. (Example: Helping verify, product reorganization, continuous improvement plans, etc.).
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Prefer 1 2 years of experience driving a forklift.
  • Ability to report to either facility in Wabash, IN based on business needs.
  • Ability to gain a general knowledge of computers and data systems, and a working understanding of Microsoft Dynamics D365 warehouse management software.
  • Able to obtain license to drive powered industrial trucks.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel, and balance while stocking, storing, and maneuvering around the work area.
  • Able to stand on feet for 10+ hours.
