Herbicide Technician

Summary

The Weeding Team Leader is responsible for applying chemicals to plant beds and hard surfaces and other vegetation to control weeds, pests, and diseases. This includes training and mentoring team members on being safe, hardworking, reliable, and having strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Lead team members to ensure that they are completed to the highest standards of quality and safety

• Lifting heavy objects

• Apply chemicals to lawns and other vegetation according to established procedures and safety guidelines.

• Mix and dilute chemicals as needed.

• Inspect treated areas for signs of pests or diseases.

• Keep records of all chemical applications.

• Maintain and clean equipment.

• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Strong leadership and communication skills (English)

• Excellent organizational and time management skills

• Strong work ethic and attention to detail

• Valid driver's license with clean driving record

• Attendance of in house driver’s training class

• Approval/Pass of DOT physical requirements 

• Above average score on performance evaluation 

• Be recommended by Supervisor and pass qualification test

• In House Chemical Safety Training

Certifications and Licensing

• Preferred : Current and valid State Pesticide Applicator License/Certification, specific to the category of herbicides being applied (e.g., Agricultural, Right-of-Way, Ornamental & Turf, or Aquatics, depending on the job scope).

• Required: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Technical Skills

• Application Knowledge: Proficiency in calculating dilution rates, calibrating application equipment, and mixing chemical solutions accurately and safely.

• Herbicide Selection: Ability to identify common and invasive plant species and select the appropriate herbicide, adjuvant, and application method for effective control while minimizing impact on non-target species.
• Able to read products label

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

• Able to lift 50 lbs. (Equipment, tools, and supplies may need to be lifted, carried, pulled and/or pushed)
• Able to walk/stand for long periods of time
• Able to reach, bend, twist, kneel, stoop, squat, crouch and grasp along with repetitive movements may be part of daily job duties
• Must be able to work in summer and winter climates

Schedule:

• 10 hour shift
• Day shift
• Monday to Thursday plus on call during busy season

• English or Bilingual English/Spanish

$1,500.00 Sign-on Bonus paid out within first 12 months
