The Town of Acton is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and forward-thinking law enforcement professional to serve as our next Deputy Police Chief. This is an exceptional opportunity for a proven leader who is passionate about public service, organizational excellence, and building strong relationships within both the department and the community. Reporting directly to the Chief of Police, the Deputy Police Chief serves as the department's second-in-command and plays a critical leadership role in shaping the strategic direction, daily operations, and long-term success of the Acton Police Department. This is a full-time, benefited, non-union position. The Acton Police Department proudly serves a community of approximately 24,000 residents through proactive policing, professional investigations, emergency response, and meaningful community engagement. The department is committed to innovation, accountability, transparency, and providing exceptional public safety services while fostering a culture of professionalism and continuous improvement. The Deputy Police Chief is a trusted member of the department's executive leadership team and provides leadership across both operational and administrative functions. In this role, the successful candidate will serve as an engaged member of the Town's leadership team and collaborate across departments and partner agencies. They will help guide department initiatives, mentor staff, oversee critical projects, and support the Chief in advancing organizational goals while ensuring the highest standards of public service. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology or related field (or the equivalent in training, experience or education) and a minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Police Administrator or Supervisor. Must be able to obtain certification from the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee. Must be a non-smoker according to MGL Ch 41 S.101A, Prohibition of Tobacco Products. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with grant writing, collective bargaining, emergency planning, training, and budget preparation & maintenance are all highly desirable.
