About the Role
Join the State of South Carolina's Office of Cybersecurity as a Security Analyst - Consultant and play a vital part in safeguarding critical systems and data across ongoing cybersecurity projects. This new, high-impact position offers hands-on experience in a collaborative, fully onsite environment and the opportunity to work on mission-critical initiatives for public sector security.

Responsibilities

- Analyze, monitor, and evaluate security systems to identify vulnerabilities and recommend robust security solutions
- Develop, document, and implement cybersecurity policies, procedures, and best practices
- Conduct regular security assessments, audits, and incident response activities
- Collaborate with IT teams, leadership, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with state and federal security standards
- Stay updated on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices in cybersecurity
- Deliver clear, actionable reports and recommendations to leadership

Required Skills and Experience

- Strong background in cybersecurity, including vulnerability assessment and risk management
- Experience with security policies, frameworks, and compliance standards (such as NIST, HIPAA, or FISMA)
- Proficiency in incident detection, analysis, and response
- Knowledge of network and system security technologies and tools
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills

Preferred Skills

- Experience in the public sector or large enterprise environments
- Advanced certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CEH)
- Familiarity with cloud security best practices
- Project management experience in IT security initiatives
