In this role, you will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger, high complexity work. You will work closely with engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice that support positive client outcomes.This position focuses on the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. You will help manage project budgets, mentor less experienced staff, and collaborate across disciplines to meet project goals and client expectations, while supporting education-focused work and advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.At a GlanceLocation: Inland Empire - Ontario, CA or Downtown Los AngelesDiscipline: MechanicalMarkets: EducationOwnership: 100% employee-owned (ESOP)Travel: Up to 10%Work Schedule: Full-time hybridSponsorship: Not availableWhat You'll DoLead design efforts for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, including detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.Partner with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships.Support the execution of consulting projects as part of a project team.Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.Document design decisions and client instructions, and monitor project design progress related to percent complete and fee expended.Analyze engineering problems and develop practical and efficient solutions with senior engineers and consultants.Provide in-process reviews of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system designs, calculations, and specifications, and implement IMEG quality control processes.Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems.Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase.What You'll BringRequiredEducationBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) License requiredExperience2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry (years of experience may vary based on state license qualifications)Required Skills/AbilitiesProficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsStrong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systemsAbility to train and mentor less experienced staffProficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including HVAC load calculation softwareExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficiency in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) softwareProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight staysAbout the TeamService mix is centered on education work across K-12 and higher education, with a notable supporting presence in healthcare and public-sector projects.
