Athletic Trainer Job Description

Minimum Qualifications: Education Level: Bachelor's degree required Certification/License Required: Valid certification by the Boards of Certification for Athletic Trainers (BOC-ATC) Licensed by the Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers (Licensed Athletic Trainer-LAT) or eligible to obtain licensure Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification for Health Care Provider Knowledge of applicable Georgia High School Association (GHSA) health and safety requirements, including concussion management, heat and hydration protocols, emergency action planning, and sudden cardiac arrest procedures. Experience working with adolescent athletes in a school, clinical, sports medicine, or athletic setting preferred. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and Board of Education may find appropriate and consistent with applicable law and licensure requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of athletic training principles, injury prevention, clinical evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning. Strong clinical assessment and emergency response skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to maintain productive working relationships with students, parents/guardians, coaches, administrators, healthcare providers, and other employees. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative school and healthcare team. Knowledge of evidence-based sports medicine practices, emergency action plans, injury documentation, and return-to-play procedures. Strong organizational, time-management, documentation, discretion, and professionalism skills. Ability to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and some holidays as athletic schedules require.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Work in indoor and outdoor athletic settings and in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Travel between school athletic facilities and to away games, meets, or other events as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Principal. Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, bend, squat, and climb stairs, steps, ramps, and step ladders as required. Stand or kneel for extended periods while providing athletic healthcare. Position student-athletes for examination and assist injured athletes with mobility. Lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally, and heavier loads infrequently when assisting with emergency response or athlete mobility. Possess sufficient visual, auditory, verbal, manual dexterity, physical, mental, and emotional capacity to perform assigned duties safely and effectively.

Performance Responsibilities: Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance and maintain availability consistent with assigned athletic schedules. Establish and maintain a comprehensive athletic training program supporting Worth County Schools athletics, including high school and middle school programs as assigned. Provide on-site prevention, evaluation, immediate and emergency care, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning for athletic injuries and illnesses within the Athletic Trainer's scope of practice. Assess injury risk and implement injury-prevention, wellness, conditioning, and education strategies appropriate to student-athlete needs. Maintain and implement emergency action procedures and support district and GHSA safety requirements related to concussion management, heat acclimatization and hydration, sudden cardiac arrest, and other athletic health risks. Monitor environmental conditions, athletic facilities, equipment, and hydration practices and communicate identified safety concerns to appropriate personnel. Coordinate athlete medical clearance processes and assist with pre-participation physical documentation and eligibility-related health requirements. Document all student-athlete encounters, injuries, treatments, rehabilitation activities, restrictions, referrals, and return-to-play status in accordance with district procedures and applicable requirements. Communicate with physicians, other healthcare providers, administrators, coaches, school nurses, students, and parents/guardians regarding injury status, restrictions, treatment plans, rehabilitation progress, and safe return to participation, while maintaining required confidentiality. Provide sport-related accommodation and participation recommendations for student-athletes with medical restrictions or limitations within the Athletic Trainer's scope of practice. Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes in accordance with sports medicine standard operating procedures, physician direction when applicable, Georgia law, and professional standards. Provide onsite athletic healthcare coverage for assigned home practices, contests, and GHSA-sanctioned competitions and travel to away events as assigned. Serve as a primary point of contact for athletic healthcare needs during assigned practices and competitions. Partner with coaches and athletic staff on injury-prevention strategies, safe conditioning practices, and sports medicine education. Provide training or professional learning to coaches and athletic personnel on relevant student-athlete health and safety practices as assigned. Assist with fitting, application, and maintenance of protective equipment, braces, taping, and other injury-prevention supports. Maintain athletic training supplies and equipment, monitor inventory, and assist with budget planning and purchasing as assigned. Work toward the development and supervision of a Student Trainer Program when appropriate and approved by district administration. Act in a professional manner, provide appropriate service to students and the public, and maintain a professional appearance consistent with job responsibilities. Comply with school, district, state, federal, GHSA, licensure, and professional requirements applicable to the position. Maintain confidentiality of student and medical information and follow established district procedures and chain of command. Show initiative, exercise sound professional judgment, and perform routine responsibilities with limited direct supervision. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, District Athletic Director, Superintendent, or designee.

Terms of Employment: 190-day position. Salary based on board-approved certified salary schedule. Reports To: Principal Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal, athletic director, or designee.
