Seeking a (Gastroenterologist) Staff Physician

The Salisbury VA Healthcare System is seeking a dedicated full‑time Gastroenterologist Staff Physician in Kernersville, NC, to lead our compassionate healthcare team. Duties

• Provide patient‑centered care for adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Supervise and support nurse practitioners.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and serve as staff attending for consults.
• Participate in quality improvement, multidisciplinary teams, and peer review processes.
• Complete timely medical record documentation.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and required education.
• Teach and mentor residents, fellows, and medical students (if assigned).
• Support and participate in clinical research activities.

J‑1 visa applicants are welcome to apply. VA may consider Non‑US Citizens (e.g. J‑1 visa holders) for employment when no qualified US Citizens are available. VA has supported requests to USCIS for waiver of the 2‑year home residency requirement that is typically required of J‑1 visa holders.

Benefits

Salary Range: $350,000‑$400,000

Sign‑on Bonus: Authorized

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Work‑Life Balance: Various flexible schedule options are available. This includes standard 8–10‑hour workdays and compressed work schedules.

Call Schedule: No call in Kernersville. It is an HCC. Can take calls at Salisbury VA Medical Center one day a week.

Paid Time Off: 50‑55 days of annual paid time per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days for CME).

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% in contributions by VA.

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care; many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement.

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory.

CME: Possible $2,500 per year reimbursement.

Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided.

Contract: No physician employment contract and no significant restrictions on moonlighting.

Academic Affiliation: Atrium Health Wake Forest

Work Schedule: Monday‑Friday 7:30‑4:00 pm.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is impossible to recruit qualified citizens, in accordance with VA Policy.
• Education: A Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
• Licensure: Candidates must possess a current, complete, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency: Completion of a residency program in an accredited core specialty.
• Board Certification: Candidates must be board‑certified or board eligible.
• Experience: None required.
