SOUS CHEF (FULL TIME)

We are hiring immediately for a full‑time Sous Chef (full time, Monday–Friday, weekend availability). Location: 700 Prospect Street, New Haven, CT 06511. Schedule: Full time with variable hours; more details upon interview. Pay Range: $25.00–$30.00 per hour. Job Summary Helps the Executive Chef prepare and cook foods, coordinates activities of cooks and food‑service associates, and assumes responsibility for the kitchen in the Executive Chef’s absence. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards; ensures deadlines based on production orders are met. Supervises hourly food service associates (interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, reviews, and disciplinary action as appropriate). Stores food in designated areas, complying with corporate, state, and federal food safety and sanitation procedures. Ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and maintenance of serving temperatures. Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils; cleans the workstation thorough and keeps display equipment clean. Interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service‑oriented manner; relays relevant information to supervisor. Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of daily menu items and explains them accurately to associates and customers. Keeps up with peak production and service hours. Monitors inventory and deliveries; tracks production, consumption, and waste; informs supervisor when supplies or product are low. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications 3–5 years of cooking experience. Ability to follow and execute provided recipes. ServSafe certification required.
