Safety Compliance Specialist

We’re looking for a Compliance & Safety Specialist to help lead and coordinate safety, hazardous materials, environmental, and compliance programs across our operations. This role is ideal for an experienced EHS professional who enjoys working across departments, solving problems, conducting investigations, and turning regulatory requirements into practical workplace solutions. What You’ll Do Develop, implement, and monitor safety programs designed to reduce workplace accidents, injuries, and workers’ compensation costs. Maintain compliance with OSHA, DOT HazMat, environmental, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations . Ensure proper classification, packaging, labeling, storage, segregation, and transportation of hazardous materials, including UN identification numbers and shipping documentation. Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and support OSHA Hazard Communication (HazCom) requirements. Support wastewater management and environmental compliance programs, including chemical and waste handling, storage, treatment coordination, and disposal. Conduct safety inspections and audits, identify hazards, and develop corrective action plans in partnership with EHS leadership. Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, spills, and hazardous material incidents and coordinate corrective actions using root cause analysis. Lead safety training for employees and supervisors, including general safety, chemical safety, HazMat handling, SDS usage, DOT requirements, and job-specific hazards. Support fire prevention and emergency response activities. Identify safety and environmental risks and communicate recommendations to management. Assist with OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulatory inquiries and reporting. Maintain safety, environmental, HazMat, SDS, and regulatory records. Partner with departments on new equipment, facility designs, and work methods to ensure safety and environmental compliance. Encourage a proactive safety culture by ensuring employees understand how and when to report injuries, spills, exposures, and unsafe conditions. Utilize EHS/LMS systems to support safety program management and reporting. What We’re Looking For 3–5 years of related experience ; bachelor’s degree preferred. Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety compliance standards . Working knowledge of DOT HazMat regulations (49 CFR) , including classification, packaging, labeling, placarding, and UN identification numbers. Experience managing SDSs and HazCom programs . Familiarity with wastewater management and environmental compliance requirements. Experience with hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal preferred. Strong written, verbal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to communicate effectively and work with employees and leaders at all organizational levels. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing environment. Sound judgment and the ability to make timely decisions. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and Publisher . Demonstrated ability to respond effectively to emergencies, including chemical spills and hazardous material incidents.
