Job Description

The Dietary Aide supports daily food service operations to ensure residents receive nutritious, well-prepared meals that meet dietary needs and facility standards. This role focuses on meal preparation, tray assembly, delivery, and maintaining a clean, safe food-service environment while providing friendly and respectful service to residents, families, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meal preparation by following established menus and dietary guidelines.

• Portion and plate meals accurately according to individual diet orders and facility standards.

• Assemble meal trays and deliver them to designated floors, ensuring timely and correct distribution.

• Set up meal trays for residents as needed to support a positive dining experience.

• Collect trays after meals and return them to the kitchen for cleaning and processing.

• Perform dishwashing and related cleaning tasks to maintain sanitation in kitchen and food-service areas.

• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, tray line, dining areas, and all food-service workspaces.

• Follow all food safety and infection-control procedures to ensure a safe environment for residents and staff.

• Communicate with nursing staff and other team members regarding resident dietary needs, changes, or concerns.

• Assist with inventory tasks, including stocking supplies and organizing food items.

• Support basic kitchen tasks such as food prep, line cooking, and grill or banquet preparation as needed.

• Provide courteous, friendly, and respectful customer service to residents, families, and colleagues.

• Work effectively within a team of dietary staff to ensure smooth and efficient meal service.

• Adhere to facility policies, schedules, and quality standards for food service operations.

Essential Skills

• Experience with food preparation and foodservice operations, including basic kitchen tasks.

• Ability to work effectively on a tray line, assembling and organizing meal trays accurately and efficiently.

• Proficiency in dishwashing and maintaining sanitation in kitchen and dining areas.

• Strong cleaning skills and commitment to maintaining a hygienic work environment.

• Demonstrated customer service skills with a focus on friendly and respectful interactions.

• Ability to work in a hot and fast-paced environment, including a kitchen that can reach high temperatures.

• Ability to stand, walk, and lift light items throughout an entire shift.

• Reliability, punctuality, and consistent follow-through on assigned tasks.

• Teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with coworkers and nursing staff.

• Attention to detail in following diet orders, safety procedures, and food presentation standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in healthcare foodservice or institutional dining is beneficial.

• Comfort working with limited direct patient or resident interaction while focusing on back-of-house tasks.

• Strong communication skills to coordinate with nursing and dietary teams regarding dietary needs.

• Ability to adapt to rotating schedules, including weekends and holidays.

• Willingness to learn facility-specific food safety and infection-control protocols.

Work Environment

The role follows 1st or 2nd shift schedules, with 8-hour days typically running from 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. or 11:30 a.m.–8:00 p.m., including rotating weekends and rotating holidays. When fully staffed, you will work alongside approximately 8–10 teammates, creating a collaborative and coordinated kitchen environment. The position involves very limited direct patient interaction, with most time spent assembling trays and delivering them to assigned floors. The kitchen is fast-paced and can become very hot, especially in the summer, with temperatures reaching around 100 degrees when ovens are in use, so comfort working in high-heat conditions is important. The work requires standing and walking for most of the shift, lifting light items, and adhering to food safety and infection-control procedures in a professional food-service setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ebensburg, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $14.00 - $15.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
