PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION The primary purpose of your job position is to organize, manage, coordinate and oversee the planning and executing of social, recreational and educational programs for the residents in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, facility policy and procedure, Birchaven Village ethical statement and resident rights, subject to the associate handbook, and as directed by the Administrator. The primary purpose of your job position is to organize, manage, coordinate and oversee the planning and executing of social, recreational and educational programs for the residents in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, facility policy and procedure, Birchaven Village ethical statement and resident rights, subject to the associate handbook, and as directed by the Administrator. Job Duties/Responsibilities Duty 1: Organize, manage, coordinate and oversee the planning and executing of social, recreational and educational life enrichment programs for the residents in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, facility policy and procedure, Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent information to assure personnel and resident rights are respected. Duty 2: Develop and maintain written policies and procedures that reflect current standards of practice and programs for the life enrichment department. Focusing on Person Centered Care for residents served. Duty 3: Responsible to develop and maintain department including activity equipment and supplies--within operating and capital budget. Prepares department budget including labor; equipment and supplies. Duty 4: Oversight of assessments, care plans and progress notes related to life enrichment. Ensuring that the care and services provided are person-centered, and honor and support each resident’s preferences, choices, values and beliefs. Duty 5: Assumes and demonstrates accountability and leadership to ensure that the department implements an ongoing resident centered life enrichment program that incorporates the resident’s interests, hobbies and cultural preferences which is integral to maintaining and/or improving a resident’s physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being and independence. To create opportunities for each resident to have a meaningful life by supporting his/her domains of wellness (security, autonomy, growth, connectedness, identity, joy and meaning). Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure services are communicated. Duty 6: Oversee the planning and development of life enrichment calendars that meet the requirements of Duty #5 and are offered at times that provide for maximum involvement by residents to include evenings and weekends. Duty 7: Determine staffing needs for the life enrichment department and serves as back up to support meeting the life enrichment needs of the residents. Provides direction and oversight for volunteer program and gift shop. Duty 8: Assumes and demonstrates accountability and leadership in the performance of directing their departments to ensure quality of resident care and promotion of team collaboration. Duty 9: Directs the resident council meetings. Attends meetings as required including QAPI; Leadership; and Resident/Family meetings. Duty 10: Develop and implement an effective life enrichment orientation program as well as on-going in-service training for staff that provides information necessary to maintain quality of services. Duty 11: Attend education programs to maintain knowledge of current standards of practice. Communicate information to life enrichment staff as needed. Duty 12: Supports and is actively engaged in practicing the mission, vision, and values of the organization to promote resident satisfaction. Actively participates in supporting cascading goals, including service excellence; financial and idea boards. Required Qualifications Must be licensed or registered as a qualified therapeutic recreations specialist OR an activities professional who— (i) Is licensed or registered in Ohio, and is: A) Eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or as an activities professional by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990; or B) Has 2 years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full-time in a therapeutic activities program; or C) Is a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; or D) Has completed a training course approved by Ohio. “Recognized accrediting body” refers to those organizations that certify, register, or license therapeutic recreation specialists, activity professionals, or occupational therapists. This position may involve activities on nights and weekends. Ability to read and interpret documents and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to speak effectively before groups of people. Ability to communicate with residents and encourage them to participate in activity programs. Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status. Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area’s policies and procedures. Preferred Qualifications Two-years of experience managing an activity program of a long-term care facility.
