X NON-EXEMPT JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provides quality standards-based instruction in Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security (LPSCS); prepare students for careers in law enforcement, corrections; enhance students academic foundations, communications, problem solving, ethics, critical thinking and teamwork.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Teach CTE law enforcement/public safety curriculum that aligns with Alabama Department of Education (ALSDE) and Career & Technical Education (CTE) Course of Study; aligns to the career pathway requirements; assesses and encourages student progress; manages an effective learning environment to maximize student achievement.
• Maintain program requirements for TAPE and local system ALSDE and Local Education System (LEA) compliance monitoring
• Principles and practices of Law Enforcement, including patrol procedures, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement and community policing
• Criminal justice system structure: local, state and federal roles; courts; corrections; juvenile justice
• Criminal and constitutional law basics, including student-appropriate instruction on rights, due process, and ethics
• Public safety procedures, emergency response, incident command and situational awareness
• Safety standards for classroom, lab and scenario-based instruction
• Diversity, equity and cultural competence as related to community relations and policing
• Technology used in law enforcement and education (report writing tools, simulations and LMS platforms)
• Ability to assess student performance using a variety of instructional and evaluation method
• Strong classroom management and student supervision skills
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's Degree in a Law and Public Safety area OR one of the following:
• APOST Certification or equivalent
• DODPOST Certification or equivalent
• Federal Law Enforcement Training Agency
Bachelor's Degree or higher in a Law and Public Safety area OR

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that combine theory, hands-on skills, and real-world applications
- Instruct students in foundational topics such as criminal justice systems, constitutional law, ethics, community policing, investigations, and public safety careers
- Incorporate scenario-based learning, simulations, case studies, and industry-relevant activities
- Integrate employability skills (communication, teamwork, professionalism, decision-making) into instruction
- Create a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment that models professional conduct
- Supervise students during classroom instruction, labs, simulations, and field-based activities
- Monitor student progress, assess learning outcomes, and provide timely feedback
- Support diverse learners, including students with IEPs/504 plans and varying career goals
- Serve as a mentor and role model for students interested in law enforcement and public safety careers
- Prepare students for postsecondary pathways, certifications, internships, or entry-level public safety programs
- Maintain current knowledge of law enforcement practices, legal standards, and workforce trends
- Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies, public safety organizations, and community partners
- Ensure instruction complies with district policies, state CTE requirements, and school safety guidelines
- Sponsors a Career Technical Education Student Organization (CTSO) and participates in at least one program-related competition per year.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, attendance, and required documentation
- Establish and participate in advisory committee meetings, program reviews, and accreditation activities
- Coordinate guest speakers, field trips, job-shadowing, or work-based learning opportunities
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and required training
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and CTE staff to support student success
- Uphold ethical standards and promote positive community relationships
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the CTE program and school mission
