Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship

The courses, learning activities, and resources provided to you in our pharmacy technician training program are designed to give you foundational and advanced knowledge, skills, and on‑the‑job experiences you need to prepare to become a certified pharmacy technician. Key Responsibilities Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies. Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, coach other pharmacy technicians in operating pharmacy systems and cashiers in operating pharmacy cash registers. Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience. Customer Experience Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer‑service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience. Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers. Operations Assist in the practice of pharmacy under supervision, complying with state, federal, and company policy, and reviewing the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Enter patient and drug information into pharmacy systems, ensuring correct data entry, and fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs. Verify medicine is correct and check for possible interactions. Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow. Report prescription errors immediately and adhere to Company policies and procedures regarding pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program. Adhere strictly to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities. Register all related sales on assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and assist customers to the OTC aisle when possible. Handle telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians. Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services in a timely and efficient manner and perform other clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager. Assist with inventory management activities such as ordering, unpacking, checking and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals and file claims for warehouse overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods involving RX drugs. Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collection and labeling of blood/urine samples and coordinating clinical services with Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers. Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with local medical community and health‑care providers through provider detailing and outreach. Assist in exterior and interior maintenance of the Pharmacy Department, ensuring supplies are stocked, and the department is clean, neat, and orderly. Comply with all company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers. Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned. Training & Personal Development Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and/or state‑required certification/registration. Otherwise earn PTCB certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician. Attend training requested by Manager and acquire continuing education credits, maintaining knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments. Basic Qualifications Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico) Require willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours. Preferred Qualifications Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment. Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens. Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling (counting, measuring, weighing). Prefer good computer skills. Prefer knowledge of store inventory control. Prefer PTCB certification.
