Operating Room Nurse (OR RN)

Overview OR RNs provide care for patients before, during, and after surgery. Duties include patient education, circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse, and potentially First Assistant. Work alongside surgical teams to make sure that patients are receiving the best possible care; serve as liaisons between the surgical team and the patients' families. OR RNs work in the operating room of a hospital. There are several types of operating rooms depending on the type of surgery such as: General, Orthopedic, Neuro, Spine, Urology, and Cardiac/Thoracic. Responsibilities Provide care for patients before, during, and after surgery. Serve as circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse; potentially First Assistant. Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure high-quality patient care. Serve as liaison between the surgical team and patients' families. Work in hospital operating rooms of various types (General, Orthopedic, Neuro, Spine, Urology, Cardiac/Thoracic). Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): 4-year education Associate\'s Degree in Nursing (ADN): 2-year education Must earn an ADN or BSN and pass the NCLEX to obtain RN licensure.
