Reports To: Principal

Job Summary: The Middle School Gifted Teacher is responsible for providing advanced and differentiated instruction to students identified as gifted and talented. This role involves developing and delivering a challenging curriculum, fostering a stimulating learning environment, and supporting the intellectual and emotional growth of gifted students.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Instructional Planning and Delivery:
    • Develop and implement a rigorous and enriched curriculum tailored to the needs and interests of gifted students.
    • Provide instruction in advanced topics and concepts across various subject areas, including language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and strategies to challenge and engage gifted students, including project-based learning, critical thinking activities, and interdisciplinary approaches.
  2. Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
    • Assess and evaluate student performance through a range of methods, including projects, tests, presentations, and observations.
    • Monitor and document student progress, providing timely feedback and support to help students achieve their full potential.
    • Adjust instructional strategies and interventions based on assessment data and individual student needs.
  3. Curriculum Development and Enrichment Opportunities:
    • Design and update instructional materials, lesson plans, and resources to enhance the gifted curriculum.
    • Develop and coordinate enrichment opportunities, such as advanced coursework, research projects, and extracurricular activities.
    • Incorporate new trends and innovative teaching practices into the curriculum to provide relevant and engaging learning experiences.
  4. Student Support and Mentoring:
    • Provide academic and emotional support to gifted students, addressing their unique needs and challenges.
    • Mentor students to help them develop their talents, interests, and potential career pathways.
    • Encourage and support students' participation in competitions, clubs, and other activities that align with their interests and strengths.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with general education teachers, school counselors, and other staff to support the needs of gifted students.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement.
    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, school meetings, and other events to build strong relationships with families and support student success.
  6. Professional Development and Leadership:
    • Stay current with advancements in gifted education, best practices, and educational research through professional development opportunities.
    • Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues, contributing to the development of school-wide strategies for gifted education.
    • Lead and participate in professional learning communities and committees focused on gifted education and student achievement.
  7. Administrative Tasks:
    • Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, and other necessary documentation.
    • Prepare and submit reports, lesson plans, and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
    • Manage resources and materials related to gifted education, ensuring they are used effectively and efficiently.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Gifted Education, or a related field.
  • Valid state teaching certification in Gifted Education or secondary education.
  • Previous experience teaching gifted students preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of gifted education principles, differentiated instruction, and advanced curriculum design.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and resources.
Work Environment:
  • Work is performed in a classroom setting and may involve participation in school events and activities.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for school functions, professional development, and enrichment activities.
