Job Purpose: To contribute to the success of our customers by effectively managing the daily production so that output meets or exceeds the production schedule and quality requirements.

Job Responsibilities and Job Duties:

1. Effectively manages the daily production of customers' orders so that production meets or exceeds the production schedule while meeting safety, quality and cost goals.

· Ensures that daily production goals/objectives are met; takes action when they are not met.

· Conduct a daily production meeting at the beginning of each shift to communicate the daily goals and progress to the crews and provides other required information.

· Observe daily work progress and pre-empt bottle-necks in production to ensure continuous line operation.

· Initiate and support programs that drive for an engaged workforce, resulting in improved morale and employee ownership of results.

· Maintains an active presence on the floor to monitor, motivate and ensure success.

2. Understand and maintain a culture of "lean action" within the department so that we live lean better than any organization.

· Apply and utilize "lean tools" to permanently implement improvements.

· Institutionalize 5-S in all aspects of the department. (Sort, Straighten, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain)

· Uses metrics to identify gaps and build improvement plans, striving for zero defects.

· Ensures department SOPs and Work Instructions are developed, maintained, trained to, and followed by employees to drive a culture of discipline throughout the shift.

· Utilizes daily standard work for self and direct reports to reinforce a culture of discipline and consistent practices.

· Verify MDI boards are being accurately completed and appropriate actions are being taken when results are abnormal to standards.

3. Manage the safety, cleanliness, maintenance and upkeep of the shop floor and work stations.

· Ensure that equipment cleaning and sanitation processes are followed and documented.

· Ensures a clean and organized work environment that adheres to the Department's housekeeping schedule.

· Ensure OSHA safety requirements are being met and that company safety processes are followed.

· Ensure a SAFE work environment is maintained in all aspects.

· Ensure effective change-over of lines, tanks and/or work cell.

· Ensure line change- over occur in the minimum time, with 100% run-readiness.

· Report continuous or major problems to Maintenance Dept immediately.

· Ensure all equipment meets Apex clean and sanitary standards.

· Complete required Logs and required administration to ensure compliance with government and company standards.

· Responsible for maintaining and improving production's portion of APEX's quality systems.

· Demonstrate a working knowledge of APEX's quality system as it relates to production.

Pulls samples for testing and performs testing as needed (i.e. tensile testing).

· Identify, report, and assist in resolving quality issues.

· Proactively interface with Apex's quality department.

· Ensure cleaning and sanitizing procedures are done correctly.

· Ensure all line paperwork (including test records, batch records, line audit records, etc.) is completed accurately and in compliance with government and company standards.

5. Perform other work as assigned.

Direction and oversight of others: 1 to 3 Lines, working with 5 to 25 hourly Apex employees and temporary workers associated with their respective area. This is a 9 hr. per day minimum position. Group lead should be here 30 mins before and 30 mins after their respective shift for communication with other shifts and proper preparation of their shift.

Qualification and Skill Requirements:

Prior Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of production lead/supervisory/management experience required.

Knowledge Requirements:

To be effective, this position requires specific knowledge of management skills, "batch processing", lean manufacturing terms and techniques, shipping and fulfillment. Requires an understanding of reporting software such as Alliance. Requires specific knowledge in a manufacturing or technical field and knowledge ideally in the personal care, cosmetics, or pharmaceutical products industry. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.

Technical Competencies:

· Uses processes and technology to improve the quality and efficiency of service or production; follows processes well.

· Can maintain and grow technical knowledge and expertise. Can be accurate, precise and pay attention to detail.

· Has a "working" knowledge of personal computer operation. Is proficient at Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Office 2000 or higher.

· Can read and write at the college level.

· Understands and can do basic math and algebra to create a spreadsheet report or produce a query.

· Can read and follow specifications.

Work Requirement:

This position may require significant work hours beyond the normal workday based on the demands of the business cycle, customer volume of business, and specific sales efforts underway. It has a moderate to high demand for tight deadlines. This position does not entail work of a moderately seasonal or cyclical nature. This position will experience moderate interruption in workflow, starting and stopping for product changeovers. It has a very low rate of overnight and day travel.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires:

· Infrequent/Moderate (2 to 4 hours per day) bending, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, reaching, lifting and grasping.

· Continuous (6 or more hours per day) standing and walking.

· Continuous (6 or more hours per day) talking, teaching, and repetitive motion, hand/wrist movement.

· Sensory requirements: Good eyesight, normal hearing, and fluent in the English language.

Working Conditions:

· Indoors, air conditioned.

· Will be exposed to various fragrances which at times may be at elevated levels.

· Moving and lifting objects, sometimes 50 lbs., frequently.

· Travel (when applicable) by car and airplane.

· Work Schedule:

This position usually works for 8-10 hours during a shift. However, hours of work are flexible and will fluctuate based on the needs of the business and the customers. The job may require a maximum of 5-20 hours of work beyond the normal work-week schedule depending on work demands. The work hours can vary depending on customer requirements and staffing.
