The next step is building autonomous AI agentic systems that can perform inspections, damage assessments, design, and cost estimations with speed, accuracy, and operational trust at scale. We’ve already validated the direction. This role is responsible for taking Hover from “we’ve proven it works” to “it runs accurately and reliably at scale.” We’re hiring a Principal Agentic AI Engineer to lead the architecture, technical strategy, and operational rigor behind our next generation of autonomous systems. This is a deeply hands‑on technical leadership role where you’ll stay close to architecture, evaluation systems, debugging, and critical implementation details while helping define the future of agentic AI at Hover. You’ll work at the intersection of: multi‑agent orchestration agentic systems reliability enterprise‑grade AI trust If you want to help define how an entire industry transitions from manual workflows to autonomous systems, this role is for you. You will contribute by Agentic AI Architecture & Technical Leadership Define and evolve Hover's Agentic AI architecture, including multi‑agent orchestration, planning, memory, and tool use. Establish standards for balancing deterministic systems and model‑driven reasoning in production. Lead technical strategy and key architecture decisions while remaining hands‑on with coding, debugging, and optimization. Drive reliability, observability, safety, and operational excellence across AI systems. Navigate ambiguity and provide technical leadership across teams and stakeholders. AI Quality, Evaluation & Reliability Build evaluation systems that measure quality, reliability, accuracy, latency, and business outcomes. Define quality hill‑climbing processes to continuously improve agent performance through experimentation and evaluation. Develop benchmarks, regression testing, and customer‑specific acceptance criteria. Design confidence scoring, fallback mechanisms, escalation paths, and auditability frameworks. Improve production reliability through monitoring, root‑cause analysis, and continuous optimization. Product & Cross‑Functional Leadership Partner with Product, Design, and Operations to deliver AI‑powered customer experiences. Shape human‑AI collaboration patterns, including approvals, overrides, and transparency. Translate business goals into technical roadmaps and measurable outcomes. Communicate technical tradeoffs clearly to executives and stakeholders. Drive alignment and execution across complex, cross‑functional initiatives. Team & Organizational Leadership Set the technical vision and roadmap for Agentic AI at Hover. Mentor engineers and raise the bar on architecture, engineering rigor, and delivery excellence. Foster a culture of ownership, experimentation, and customer focus. Lead through influence and help teams solve complex technical challenges. Remain hands‑on, leveraging AI development tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, and similar platforms. Your background includes 10+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership of large‑scale production systems. Proven experience building and shipping production AI, LLM, Agentic AI, or autonomous workflow systems. Strong software engineering skills in Python and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, Hugging Face, or equivalent. Expertise in prompt engineering, context engineering, and optimizing frontier foundation models. Experience designing evaluation systems, benchmarks, regression testing, and AI quality frameworks. Demonstrated success improving AI quality through experimentation and evaluation‑driven development, including quality hill‑climbing methodologies. Strong experience improving reliability, observability, and fault tolerance of AI systems in production. Hands‑on experience fine‑tuning models using SFT, RLHF, RLAIF, DPO, or similar post‑training techniques. Strong coding skills and experience using AI‑assisted development tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent. Preferred Qualifications Experience building enterprise AI systems in insurance, fintech, healthcare, legal, or other high‑trust domains. Experience with multi‑agent systems, tool calling, planning frameworks, memory architectures, and agent orchestration platforms. Expertise in AI evaluation platforms, synthetic data generation, model‑based judges, or red‑teaming. Experience training, fine‑tuning, and evaluating frontier open‑source and proprietary models. Understanding of reinforcement learning, preference optimization, or agent optimization techniques. Track record of technical leadership as a Principal Engineer, Staff+ Engineer, Architect, or equivalent. Proven ability to lead through ambiguity and turn emerging AI technologies into production‑grade solutions. At this time, Hover is not considering fully remote roles. The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $274,000 – $338,000 annually. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all applicable US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
