Prioritizes and transports specimens within stated TAT.Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:Provides direction and guidance for questions and or problems referred by a non-certified phlebotomist concerning specimen acceptability, unusual or difficult draws or related problemsPerforms accurate and appropriate collection and receipt of specimens in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.Follows established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions, safety, fire safety, disasters, exposure, blood borne and airborne pathogens, hazardous materials, and chain of custody procedures.Assists with orientation of laboratory procedures for students and/or new laboratory employeesWhen requested, performs duties required to cover in Phlebotomy Technical Specialist/Phlebotomy Coordinator's absenceOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:Education and Formal Training:High school diploma or equivalent requiredPhlebotomy certification through ASCP, AMT, NHA, ACA or NCCT requiredWork Experience:NoneKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:Possess knowledge/skill of appropriate blood collection/handling techniquesPhysical Requirements:Interacts with patients according to the Erickson model of developmentModerate to heavy amounts of walkingLight lifting up to 25 pounds, general motion including bending, squatting, reaching, carrying, pushing and pullingManual dexterityAbility to speak plainlyNear visual acuity, ability to discern colorsMay involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materialRequired Licenses and CertificationsPBT - American Society For Clinical PathologyCape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity
